So I started collecting vinyl again

I posted this in the Physical Media thread in the berry so some of you probably saw this... but

I just picked up a Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland white label promo record. It even has the time cues that the radio station used in the 60s on it still. These are pretty hard to come by. The records are in excellent shape.. the sleeve is in decent shape.

Another recent score.. 1965 Rubber Soul Mono UK pressing. Had to have this shipped from England. The US pressings just don't cut it.

I figure I'll probably post finds here instead of cluttering up the other thread lol

I'm going this weekend to pick up a 98 pressing of Pearl Jam Yield. I got a good deal on it at $50. Usually those 90s pressings are hard to come by and typically go for $75-100

Just picked up a 1967 first US pressing (tri color label) of this bad boy. Not super rare but harder to find than the common 1968 repress with the two tone label.

So I found a Mono pressing of this for $23, which is a total fucking steal.

Visually not much different than the Mono on the sticker and on the sleeve but the sound quality is much better. By 67 Mono versions of records were much harder to come by. By 1968/1969 they were pretty much non existent

I didn't start collecting and listening to records until 2011 after my father gave me what he had kept of his record collection. I got myself an Audio-Technica LP60 starter turntable and I haven't looked back. I upgraded to the LP120 and gave my nephew Henry my original. From my dad I got all of Zeppelin's discography with first US pressings of most and a lot of other classic rock acts. I now I have around 700 or so and growing.

This is my setup now and my nephew Henry below listening to Pink Floyd's WIsh You Were Here when I visited last month. David GIlmour is his favorite musician and that makes smile

I know you posted this a while ago, but I'm just reading it again. I'm assuming you have Led Zeppelin II then? If you have a legit LZII 1st pressing (with RL etched in the runout) it's probably worth $100s.

and the funny thing or sad thing depending on your perspective is that I didn’t really set out to collect them per se.
I bought most of them at the time of their release from stores like Rasputin‘s on telegraph Avenue in Berkeley and tower records on Durant Avenue.
That’s how freaking old I am lol.
Good times.
But do you Amoeba Music in Berkeley?

Wow. What are you playing them on my friend? Wanna know all: turntable, stylus, needle, amp, speakers etc? Most important, how does it sound to you? Probably like velvet butter. I got so obsessed back in the day that I got up to around 3,000 albums. After moving around so much in those days I slowly bartered them all away with a DJ who made tapes for me every week, about 100 at a time. Even those tapes sound so much warmer particularly on some Tamla stuff like mid-period Stevie & Marvin and a lotta early pre-Marley reggae singles. No regrets. She introduced me to some folks in Detroit who were making some gorgeous techno. Wound up taking me to Toronto and Berlin. Expanded my mind and horizons. Insure them properly my friend. Which records have sounded best to you? Some of those Decca records like Who's Next - you could throw them around like a frisbee and they still sound great. Any where you've notice a hot mix, best example for me would be PiL metal box or original Casablanca Nile Rogers stuff. Have fun.
I have a Crosley C8 (basically a rebranded Fluance with a walnut base), audiotechna cartridge with a diamond stylus. The turntable has an amp built into it, but I'm using the active speakers (Edifier).

It's not an amazing setup but still sounds great for the price lol.

I still have all the original LZ pressings. They are stored downstairs in sealed box. My pops gave me them

Man, if you have the Robert Ludwig hot pressing of LZ II id offer to buy it off you.... But I'm sure they have more sentimental value than any dollar amount.

There are about 350 LP´s, most of them from the 70´s, 80´s and 90´s. Lots of Metal, but some really rar ones like Stones - Sticky Fingers or the boxed from Mike Oldfield (4LP´s), Led Zep I/II/III and Houses of the Holy. Dio, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath etc.
I never wanted to sell them because the sound of a longplayer is in my mind more natural than the cd´s. Had a lot CD´s bought were I had the LP. Now I have only the LP´s left.

It´s a good thing bands doin´ LP´s again. Like it. And my Technics player is happy about it, too.

EDIT: to see it´s not only talking...

Seems in a bad spot, but it´s only outside. The LP´s itself are in top condition.

I dug out some of my old vinyl this past spring to post in the 80's music thread. They're all in pretty bad shape. Its not like I could sell them even if I wanted to. I'm actually kind of surprised I've held onto them this long. Years and years of moving around and dragging these crates with me.

This debut album by the Psychedelic Furs is still my favorite. They certainly had bigger hits off subsequent albums, but their debut was solid start to finish.

I had a bunch of 90s vinyl I bought as the albums came out, sold when I was a broke student. Really really regret selling them.

Especially 90s stuff. You don't want to know what a first US pressing of Nirvana Nevermind or Alice in Chains Jar of Flies go for.

Never got into them but I feel like I should.

yeah, it's crazy how much it's become.. even fairly beat up super common 50 year old records are like $30 now. New ones are even more. Hell, I just bough Live Throwing Copper for $35. Granted it's two LPs, but probably would have been $25 at least even if one. Still better than paying $500 for a 94 pressing <45>

I keep meaning to get into vinyl but I have so many collections at this point it’s ridiculous.. my CD collection is around 600 deep which I guess isn’t super impressive compared to other collectors.. but I also have guns, guitars (currently downsizing), cars, and football cards.. all expensive as it is lol.. not sure I have room for another collection rn

Btw, what deck/player did you wind up with? Been meaning to pick up some SL12’s but those are direct drive, I’m assuming you’re going for belt driven for listening experience.. what’s your set up?

The Crosley C8 I have is belt driven. Has a counterweight and anti - skate... With a preamp built into it. Like every other Crosley it's rebranded. This is basically a fluance with a wood base. They take the hardware and put it in a wood base regardless of the pieces. Even the C10 is a rebranded Pro-ject.

You should see my attic. I'll holler tomorrow with a pic because it's dark up there right now
