So hugging won the belts tonight...

Lol after every one of these a few of you just have to be contrarians. Boring fights happen, it's ok. No need to act like anyone should enjoy watching stalling. It's a valid way to win but why get all elitist and pretend fans enjoy watching that shit. Most do not and that's ok. It doesn't make you sound more educated about mma just because you pretend to enjoy boring shit.

I'm loving this. "I feel if we fill the ring with centipedes to nullify the wrestling and deduct a fighter's pay 5% every time they attempt to take down, as well as giving them bath salts before a fight it would improve fight quality. I respect grappling and everything but I don't like how the rules are enforced and it makes for boring fights."

It is what it is. Their opponents couldn't defend well enough to keep them off nor could they submit them or knock them out. That's what happens. When a match is even or an opponent has an advantage standing up or on the ground like that but can't quite seal the deal/has to be careful or they could get finished themselves it can lead to some boring matches, there's two sides to every story. I accept that.

That said, when fighters like Deval blatantly coast and run out the clock I resent them for it. I get it and I understand not every fight will be a banger but they are also entertainers and when someone is clearly coasting and doesn't give a fuck it's annoying, especially on a night where many of the previous competitors fought for victory every moment of their fights. It sure as shit doesn't make me wanna watch them again. At least try to do something, that is literally what you're paid for.
Yeah I mean this is what I'm saying but apparently if you don't enjoy stalling and trying to win on points you should watch boxing... As if people don't do that shit in boxing too xD. I'm not saying they should stand there and slug it out and think people that have that opinion are morons. However I'm not a fan of fighters not even remotely trying to do any damage and just using the scoring system to their advantage.

Fucking thank you, you worded that beautifully. On this note I'm going to stop wasting precious time replying and start studying.

While both championship fights were grappling heavy, they really shouldn't be lumped together. Merab beat up O'Malley on the ground, and O'Malley was clearly gassing and hurt. They had a real fight. The women, on the other hand, didn't even break a sweat much less do any damage hugging on the ground and either one could have gone five more rounds against a fresh fighter; if a judge had scored the fight 50-50 I'd have laughed but not complained. Dvalshvili v. O'Malley was not a bad fight at all, but entertainment-wise it suffered from coming right after that women's flyweight crapfest.

you seem like a bit of an idiot so i will explain it in really simple terms that even you will understand

when fighters put on boring ass fights like that, you think the people who found it boring will be tuning into their next fight?, i'll give you a clue...NO.

Dana White will be fucking livid with the last 2 fights of that card, while the 2 fighters who won, deserved to win, at no point did they try and finish the fight, it was just points fighting, i dont know if the scoring needs looking at because just because you take someone down and just hold them there, that to me isnt any sort of effective fighting

and for all the morons saying go and watch x,y or z, i imagine most of us who do like striking also watch boxing or another form of stand up to counter balance that shite from last night
You seem like a bit of an idiot yourself so I'll explain in even simpler terms

Shevchenko = goat

Deal with it

Also TL;DR lmao

Couldn't imagine entering a fight where my "grapple only" opponent beats me in every aspect of the game, including striking

Embarrassing

Maybe I need to go back to the drawing board and learn some rudimentary grappling skills if I want to compete in MMA, instead of taking no responsibility and just blaming my opponent for being better at MMA than me

Na, F that. I'll just blame everyone else for my failings
Sugar show shit to bed for sure …. I consistently feel you should attempt to damage your opponent…..
You probably couldn't imagine a bank account that provides for your family then
Entertaining fighters get paid more ….Merab will get Jon Fitch treatment at some point lol

I mean, very true sire. I'm not as much of refined gentleman as you, I'm a primitive being that enjoys watching savagery. The just bleed God nearly died of dehydration after watching those 2 fights.

As much as I like this cheeky fuckin post (lol)...I like watching a blood bath as much as the next guy, but I also realize there are other aspects to this thing sir.

The vast majority of people on here complaining about that fight will 100% tune in for Merabs next fight, because they are hardcore fans even if they constantly shit on the thing they're a fan of. They cant kick the habit.

When it comes to the casuals, they arent gonna give a shit. They were never going to be flocking to something like Merab/Umar anyway. The main takeaway they probably had from that card is The Sphere rather than whether the main fights were boring or not.

Completely disagree, the blame was 100% on Velentina, Alexa was actually trying to finish the fight.

And her career was on the line because if she didn't win a belt? LOL, maybe she should do us a favor and do retire if this is how its gonna be against any high level opponent.
She wasn't capable of finishing the fight if she didn't have the skills necessary to make it competitive. Desperate hail Mary attempts that don't pay off aren't any more exciting than what Shevchenko did.
