So hugging won the belts tonight...

Val was robbed in the last fight so I don’t blame her using her biggest advantage and fighting safe like GSP to win.

I guess the question really is, is holding somebody fighting or not? And in a real fight that lasts 25 minutes, is the one that controls for 20 minutes while doing no damage the winner or the one that hurts the other guy and has them retreating at the end?
Well, the fights are scored round by round, and Merab did do damage.

Merab retreating at the end, losing that round, he still wins the fight.

If your scoring system has O’Malley winning that fight, it is a terrible, nonsensical system.
I mean, idk about ONE Championship's new system but their original scoring system would have him winning and everybody loved that system. Aka damage trumps all and not scored on a rd by rd basis. Let's be honest, if one shot that wobbles the other fighter was enough to win a fight if the other fight controlled but did no damage.... We would be seeing some much better fights.

Glad Merab won but I still want them to change the scoring criteria to damage and potential fight finishing moves trumping all and no rd by rd scoring.

Yeah true, and if they ever change the scoring system it will probably be 10 years later and something dumb, like the new glove design being actually worse.

the two fights are very different from each other.
Yes they are.

But we got some neanderthal casuals in here. "unga bunga wrestling hurr durr"

Also if the roles were reversed people would be gushing over how "improved" Grasso and Sugar are for learning to grapple.

You’re absolutely nuts if you think O’Malley would have have won in ONE or PRIDE, or whatever some such thing. He dominated. It wasn’t him holding on for dear life in between getting hurt, he easily and obviously destroyed him.

The title fights were disappointing. This is a step backwards for the UFC.

All I have to say, is that anyone who criticized GSP and Valentina BUT NOT Merab is an absolute hypocrite, piece of garbage human being.

"Destroyed" lmfao. Look I don't like O'malley but people saying stuff like "destroyed" after lay and pray never ceases to make me chuckle. O'malley hurt him bad to the body, Merab did 0 damage. I was watching One Championship before you probably ever knew it existed and it was very much about damage. Control didn't count for much.

I see a lot of the people coming after me seem to actually be big fans of Valentina or really hate O'malley lol. It's not that they actually think the performance wasn't boring.

Could you give an example of one fc of a fight where a guy dominated positioning and overall striking as much as merab did who lost a decision based on a body shot?

I think both Valentina and Merab's wins were boring. They did very little damage and won their fights essentially off of control.

True but I don't think either of them feel like they had a chance in there sir.

that happens but not everytime is the same: Shev basically did put to sleep the fight as soon as possible in order to "score" rounds while Merab spent a lot of time on the feet taking risks, it was OM's fault to not try to capitalize; he had a lot of time windows during the 5 rounds to use his best weapons, in hindsigh he looked like beaten already after the first round but watching it live there was the chance of a finish until the very last second.

as a viewer i'm not regretting of watching all 25' of the main fight and at the same time skipping almost the entire co main if not for the beginning of the rounds.

Grasso is such an exciting fighter.

I watch her highlight reel before bed every night

Hell no they wouldn't lol. I was rooting for Shevchenko and Merab, however in Merab's case it was a matter of which one I disliked more and that is O'malley. Style wise tho it's Merab by a landslide. A boring performance is a boring performance, does not matter who it is. Sandhagen vs Font? Boring as shit. Ngannou vs Lewis? Boring as hell. Rose vs Esparza 2? Zzzzzz. Both title fights tonight? Zzzzzz
