So Colby finally fought a young contender in his prime

So many triggered people in this thread.

Colby is an elite fighter. He just wasted his prime not fighting any contenders. Anyone who saw the first fight against prime Usman can see that. A fight he was arguably winning until the last round.

Now the guy is 37. Not to mention the massive cut that happened as soon as the fight started. Without the cut, who knows how that fight plays out.

People just hate Colby so bad

This is literally the precise thing that determines if Colby was an elite fighter, and he didn't do it.

Unbelievable how smooth brained Colby fanboys are.

Colby fought a Bellator reject and got destroyed. And you guys told me he's #2 in the world after Usman some fights ago lmao. The knowledge of these UFC shills in heavies <lol> Where are those bums now that attacked and mocked me? Hiding like always
Same here. Lots of us here have been calling this moron overrated since day 1. Literally ducked every young contender and his dumb fanboys tried to pretend Masvidal, Woodley and Lawler were quality wins.

And he got utterly fucking demolished.

Anyone who actually spouted nonsense of him being a championship caliber fighter can promptly fuck off. Guy's literally avoided these fights his entire career until he got forced into one. Washed up Woodley and Masvidal are not quality wins.

This is what happens when u try and play the game and avoid real challenges for however long u can ..

Eventually the purity of Martial Arts wins out and u get put into a situation where its time to find out what your really all about...

Colby is not about that life...

Buckley was a very winnable fight for his style too ... And couldn't get it done

Yeah but now he's the older fighter at almost 37.

I'm not a Colby hater, but when was he ever proven an "elite" welterweight? Just because he did well one night & won a few rounds vs Usman? That's all it takes to get the elite label?

Wins prove you are elite. His 3 wins since 2019 are all vs guys we knew were washed going into those fights.

I knew him switching coaches yet again couldn’t be a good sign.

IMO it’s not that he has significantly declined athletically, it’s that inactivity has caught up to him which has caused him to kind of doubt himself. He used to be a bull that charged forward with confidence to outwill his opponent but he doesn’t do that no more. He also jumped around from trainers as well which is partially to blame for his style change, I think he’s done at the top.

Anyone know why he separated from mma masters?

Disagree completely. Hypothetically if that's 42 year old Wonderboy then he probably does his thing and his dumb fanboys come out again and proclaim his greatness, much like they did with Woodley and Masvidal.

The actual truth is we have no point of reference for Colby from 3+ years ago because all he did was sit out for title fights and fight washed up gimme matchups.
Anyone who has 2 competitive fights against a prime Usman is a legit fighter.

Usman himself said that Colby is right there, just an inch behind him during that time.

An actual elite pro's word and analysis holds much more weight than whatever mental gymnastics that can be done to minimize his record, just because people seem to be butt hurt over his WWE persona.

He's just a few years past his prime. 10-12 years in the sport tends to be when that happens.

Well, prime usman dominated everyone.

Even the first fight was 2-2 going into the 5th, Colby looked to be leading the 5th round and then took a shot, finally succumbing to his jaw injury.

But that was a very close and competitive fight all the way through.

Same is true for the second fight, Usman did the most damage, but Colby had 3 very competitive rounds as well.

Usman himself said outside of him, Colby the best in the division.

For a while, it seemed clear that was the case. He's just past his prime.

Colby was a top fighter for a while. Seems like just a lot of Recency bias going on here. We can do these same mental gymnastics towards anyone if we try hard enough, trying to minimize their record and skillset with wikipedia analysis.

It's the same energy as mma math. Study tape, not records.

Outside of a gash on his eyelid that immediately bled into his eye. It wasn't that much of a 1 sided beating.

Colby wasn't in it for a 2 or 3 round fight. He plan is always to weather the storm and fight the 4th and 5th rounds.

The amount of blood made it difficult to maintain wrestling control.

I'm a Colby fan fwiw, but I don't have any issues admitting he was down 3-0.
His plan is to never weather a storm. His plan is to set a pace and drown his opponent late.

Gus was known as elite and got a second title shot based exclusively on winning one round against jones.

He’s just old now
