Slumming it at a Motel 6 in Downtown Denver

Weird flex. You try to prove yourself you don't look down on poor people, or what?
Seriously, fuck places where shootings happen (especially with your american cardboard walls) and there are bed bugs.
Not that it's "4 seasons or I won't go" for me, but I want a decent place to stay, to be sure I wake up in the morning, well rested, and my car not stolen.

The hotels in Denver downtown are rough, even the pricey ones. I had to stay in something similar in Denver because of a last minute thing for my job, not sure where you stayed but in my area it was heavy traffic for homeless people and people that had zero care of hiding their activities.

It was freezing out and snowing alot, that didn't stop it from being business as usual outside.

If I have enough time in advance to plan, I like to get good accomodations.

it also depends on how long I will be there. I dont mind spending one night in a not so great place, but bedbugs scares the shit out of me bro so I usually avoid motels and the like.

If i'm spending a week somewhere I try to get a sweet Airbnb.

The most dangerous thing in your post is that you consider eating at Burger King.
This. I was wondering why he was so happy that it was conveniently located to a Burger King. lol. As if that's some massive selling point to a motel's location.

“Feel of the community” ? Bull fucking shit.

Anybody and everybody knows that if you’ve been to one hood you’ve been to them all. Nobody actively seeks it out if you can help it. Unless you’re doing some shady shit/like looking for trouble. Considering OP is indeed shady. I’m not surprised motherfuckers.

my wife and I use to hit up really ghetto places and stay to do stuff, leave, come back, do some more...... she was into weird stuff like that, and it was nothing more than a phase.

My travel job is self employed, all hotel costs come out of my profits so I book as cheap as possible as close to the convention center as I can. have for years now. Ive never had a problem. Probably the worst thing that happened was a hooker asked if I wanted a date in the parking lot. never dealt with bed bugs or getting robbed and I don't mind stepping over homeless people on the street which I see alot depending on the city.

If cost was no issue I'd always stay somewhere nice whatever is attached to the convention center. Not sure why op doesn't just do that, it's so much more convenient. You still see the city and your trip is easier.

Nice places usually don't do free breakfast, ghetto ones usually do.

Why would you risk getting bed bugs?

One time the only hotel available in town when I was on a work trip was Motel 6. I walked in the room, which already reeked of weed and said nope. Went outside and slept in my truck that night and only used the room to shit and shower. That motel also had people living there. They sat out on chairs in front of their rooms smoking weed and doing/dealing drugs all night.

How does staying in a motel in the shitty part of town help you get a feel for the community? Do you go out and interact with people? Do you explore the area?

And what makes the shitty area the community? Denver is a great city, but you go to the shitty area because why? The nicer areas are not also part of the community?
Yeah. Story doesn't add up.

There is some sort of meth/ heroine use or gay sex angle that OP is working his way up to confessing.

Thread title sounds like a Tom Waits song. I'll allow it.

I can understand the appeal a little bit, when i was studying in scotland i used to travel all over the country and stay in small Airbnb's sometimes in remote areas. It was more interesting than staying at standard hotels. Had one bad experience where I had to live in a home with a bunch of hardcore druggies.

But I can even deal with, even the occasional shooting in the neighborhood i can deal with. But you even mention a bed bug anywhere near the location and i'm out. There are few things in this world worse than bed bugs, fuck that.

I only stayed at a motel 6 once in tempe AZ because they accepted cash back in the day and I had forgotten my credit card to book a hotel. It was surprisingly clean. The only ghetto part was the shower the room itself was fine.

To each his own I guess, but I'll pass on that.
You never go back to the places where you were poor, even if just to see the changes? That is a favorite past-time of mine. Makes one see the growth of their life even more. Like you said though. To each their own.

The places I was poor don't really exist anymore, it's now upper middle class housing and developments, nostalgia factor of zero. If they did maybe I would, but nothing to do specifically with being poor.
