Sleep Aid

I've had the same problems.
Possible ideas
Look into the microbiome and if you used lots of antibiotics get a urinary organic acid test. They affect neurotransmitters profoundly.
Magnesium Citrate has always done good things for me.
Check the zinc/copper ratio; keep it in balance.
CHeck for b6, b12, or folate deficiency.
Glycine, taurine.
Vitamin C wouldn't be a bad idea to mess around with.
Limit caffeine and sugar, they are crutches.
Also look into intermittent fasting or fasting. Good habits to cultivate and will provide more structure and discipline to life. Many things affect circadian rhythm.
Regular vegetable blending, personally I do it everyday.
Look to see if you have an MTHFR mutation, which will affect neurotransmitter levels.
Look at fatty acids, particularly DHA.

I have suffered with insomnia for years. I tried everything, natural and not natural remedies.

Only when I cut sugar out of my diet did I start sleeping well.
And i mean a 100% reduction, all processed food.

Thats crazy, thanks for sharing.

I saw a sleep doctor about a year ago, and it completely changed my life. His name is Dr. Gregg Jacobs out of Worcester, MA. I believe he has written a book on the subject of curing insomnia with behavioral therapy. I was incredibly skeptical at first (as others on this board know me to be ;)) of his claims that he could cure my insomnia in four one-hour visits. The dude cured my lifelong struggle with sleep by the fifth visit.

I was going to bed at 6 a.m. every morning for about two years, and now I can sleep by 11 if I want, though I rarely choose to go to bed before 2:00 a.m.

How did he do that?

In addition to melatonin, I've used valerian root with some success. I've taken way to much Benadryl in my life, and from what I understand, long term Benadryl use increases estrogen.

being a boston native, going to be checking him out.

what did he have you do?

When they say long term sleeping pill use is correlated with increased mortality, benadryl is typically included in there with hypnotics like ambien.

First, he mentioned to shut off all of my electronics two hours before bed. Then, he gave me a schedule that went like this:

Day 1: go to bed as late as possible. Since I was starting at 6:00 A.M., and my appointment was at 9:00, I stayed up until noon that day.

Day 2: 3 P.M. bedtime

Day 3: 6 P.M. bedtime

Day 4: 9 P.M. bedtime

Day 5: 11 P.M. bedtime

You stay up three hours later every day. It's a grind, but it works. He calls it "chronotherapy"

does turmeric have any affect on sleep? I just popped one, gonna see if it has an acute affect. Am thinking about adding it to the supplement regimen.

I can't sleep for shit at night. Yes I've looked up sleeping tips, tricks, and habits but none have sufficed. Often times i lie in bed for a couple hours before i say screw this, or somehow, just somehow i miraculously fall asleep, idk how. My quality of sleep is so poor i often dread going to bed at night because i know its going to be hell, and i know work the next day is going to be absolutely awful.

Are there any natural powerful sleep pills or OTC stuff out there that is effective and consistent? If not, should I seek prescription help?

Try melatonin before you go to the doc.

I take melatonin on nights before work. Just take it an hour before you plan to sleep. Also buy the smallest dose which is 3 mg I think. Anymore is overkill because I think I read that the brain naturally produces .5 mg to put you to sleep.

I heard a doctor say only take 1.7 mg of melatonin. That's all you need. He was working with Navy Seals and seemed like he really knew his stuff.

I have taken 3-5 mg and I didn't want to wake up the next morning.
