I can't sleep for shit at night. Yes I've looked up sleeping tips, tricks, and habits but none have sufficed. Often times i lie in bed for a couple hours before i say screw this, or somehow, just somehow i miraculously fall asleep, idk how. My quality of sleep is so poor i often dread going to bed at night because i know its going to be hell, and i know work the next day is going to be absolutely awful.

Are there any natural powerful sleep pills or OTC stuff out there that is effective and consistent? If not, should I seek prescription help?

Tryptophan. It's available over the counter, and is the chemical in turkey that makes you tired after a big turkey dinner.

That's probably the Insulin response more than anything.

TS, you're probably best served going to a doctor and seeing what they have to say.

I have a fucked up sleeping schedule. I have a bad work schedule where my shifts start and end at different times during the week or month. The point being I can't get a steady sleeping schedule.

You can go to the Dr he will prescribe you Ambien, Lunesta, or some other prescription. I tried those but they all made me feel a hang over and feel groggy in the morning.

You need to get a ritual before bed. No ipad or laptop in bed or 30 minutes before you sleep. Read a book or magazine that is low key. No hard news or political shit that makes you mad. I also take ZMA and melatonin before bed. It takes about 30 minutes for it to take effect. Also you might not be sleepy. You will just be ready for bed. As soon as your ready or you feel your body ready, go to sleep. Don't try and catch the last part of a show or finish this chapter in a book. Sleep will pass you if you let it. Go to sleep as soon as you feel it.

schedule an appointment with a pysch asap.

you can try melatonin, its an over the counter remedy thats all natural.

Melatonin is a over the counter drug that works for some. Marijuana edibles (indica) is real good and strong if you wanna go that route

most of the stuff they sell at drug stores as sleep aids are essentially benadryl. melatonin works but for me it's more of a once a month thing, once a week i found it did not help me much

the supplements that i have used and found some success with are l-theanine and GABA, but they are certainly not miracle pills. also, people seem to like zma.

Zinc works best for me and is cheap. Natural factors 90 x 15mg tablets for 7$ or webber naturals 180 x 50mg at 12$.

My experiences:

Magnesium glycinate 200-400mg a night an hour or so before bed very effective. Get a quality brand.

ZMA - oddly this makes my sleep worse at times - but I feel more rested/energetic the day after. Weird but consistent. Fucked up dreams on this shit too.

Zinc (Optizinc) - relaxes me and helps me get to sleep.

Zinc picolinate - this stuff makes me hyper and revs me up. A bit of a stimulating effect. I use this one only in the mornings.

Melatonin - inconsistent - makes me groggy and out of it for a large portion of the morning.

i had the same problem.

clonazepan solved it for me.

i take it with medical supervision, so im ok.

its been wonderful since i started sleeping all nights like 40 min after going to bed.

What's clonazepan and I assume you need a prescription for it?

I've been having problems sleeping too, but I think a lot of is mental. If I go to bed believing I'm going to have a hard time falling asleep, I do. Even when i'm super tired and know my body just wants to rest, my mind keeps me up. If I can just focus on nothing and let my mind relax, my body relaxes too and go to sleep without much thought. Easier said than done sometimes

Melatonin has been hit and miss for me. Smoking weed helped for awhile, but lately it just makes me wanna do stuff (anything but sleep)

Clonazepan is one amongst others psychiatrist medicine for anxiety.

more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clonazepam

Is very popular around the world.

In Brasil you need prescription to take it because it causes tolerance, therefore addiction.

You need a doctor to prescribe it to you, toghether with anxiety symptoms.

I dont know the policy around the world and other countries but i think its kinda commom sense it should be prescribed by a psychiatrist.

but there is no doubt about its efficacy .

first you get progressively calm then you just fall sleep until the sun rise up.
if you have sleeping problems, gotta love it.

0.5g Cannabis inhalation 1 - 2h before bed.

Your absolutely right. Apparently tryptophan only has a mild sleep inducing effect and only if taken on an empty stomach. I dont know about u but by the time I get to turkey on thanksgiving im already 2000 calories in.

There is no harm in trying 1 or 2 benadryl to at least get u sleeping. See if it kickstarts a good pattern of sleep. You can use it for a few days and dont have to worry about tolerance or any bad side effects. I took it for like a year straight, every single night, a lot of it, stopped on a dime and didnt miss it. I have terrible sleep patterns, I havnt been to bed before 2 AM in like 8 years and I work a 9-5. But benadryl always worked for me.

Benzos are alright if you absolutely need them. I would try other methods before resorting to Benzos. They are highly addictive and are very dangerous when trying to get off them. When I say dangerous I mean you will probably die if you try and do it yourself. It's takes a year or more to ween off Benzos under a dr supervision. I don't know. Doesn't seem worth the trouble for me.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses, really appreciate all the feedback. I started taking 60mg of optizinc every day, and 2mg of sublingual melatonin every night a couple hours before bed. So far so good *knock on wood* past couple nights have been pretty good tbh and waking up hasn't been bad either. I'm still going to bed late as hell, but i don't have to lie in bed an hr or so before i toss and turn all night.

I have suffered with insomnia for years. I tried everything, natural and not natural remedies.

Only when I cut sugar out of my diet did I start sleeping well.
And i mean a 100% reduction, all processed food.

no, its not like that at all.
It all depends on the dosage you are taking. Lets say you are currently taking 2,5mg of clonazepan. To get off of it just take 0,5mg less during a week, then more 0,5mg untill there is nothing left. I
