Skyrim Special Edition

Why can't you get achievements with mods on console?
I made this mistake when I started Nuka World in Fallout. I had the majority of them but mods had been out way too long for me to disable them in order to get the Nuka World achievements.

On Skyrim, I'm going to complete as much as possible, get as many achievements as possible and then start using mods.

Also, just hit 16 today and got a bunch of thieves guild jobs done.

It's a perfect level to do the thief jobs. Most of them are easy and fast. Remember to take advantage of the trainers in the Thief guild: whenever you come back to turn up a job, train your favorite skills for all the money you can spend. Once you level up, you "lose" the opportunity to level a perk 5 points with a trainer, if you have the money.

It can be a good idea to postpone leveling up for a short while if you know you're coming back soon. Let's say you level up just before finishing a dungeon. Don't open your perk screen to level up yet. Finish the dungeon, kill the boss and return to the Guild. Sell your loot and make as much money as you can. Use the money to train one skill up to 5 times.

You can then open your perk screen and level up. If you still have money left, train again before venturing forth!

That's what I've been doing. Level 22 now and got a good amount of achievements. How far you think you'll go before adding in mods?

I'll probably wait until I finish the main story and the DLCs.

I already picked up all the achievements on the vanilla game and Legendary Edition. I'm not going to avoid mods just to get them all again. Besides, I have to wait for some money to upgrade my machine and really enjoy the Special Edition. X-mas cannot come soon enough this year!

Until then, I'm trying a couple of other games and preparing a character in "normal" Skyrim to be ready when I jump into Special Edition with Ultra settings!

I love playing Bethesda games but I'm too much of a hoarder, I'll steal everything I can and try to sell it. LOL I never finished FO3 because I was always overencumbered and could never find a shop with enough caps to buy all of my shit.

If you don't mind using mods, there's a "ring of divine strength" that gives you 10k carry weight. You can pick up everything for a whole game before reaching that number. If you combine that mod with the "left hand ring" mod, you have the ring of carry weight on your right hand and a magic ring of your choice on your left hand.

Or you can just fight your urges and do a complete gameplay without picking up any junk. A mage doesn't need to pick up smithing materials or junk, just soul gems and alchemy ingredients. Make a mage character focused on magic combos and enchanted items: you'll very rarely need to pick up anything. Money if of little use when you create all your magic items.

That's why I bought a house ASAP. Whatever I can't sell on my rounds through the merchants I store at home. I even have a drawer to store all the notes I've collected through my travels.

My 7 year old niece, big time gamer, was watching a live feed of this game today and wants it really bad. She's in 1st grade so her reading level is low. Is this a game she can enjoy? She mainly plays FPS games.

I would say so. Turn down the difficulty and she might need help reading some notes, but if she can play FPS she should have little problem with Skyrim.

I'm not worried about her having issues with difficulty. She rips people up online in battlefield and beats me in call of duty. My only concern is the reading and her understanding of what to do in a quest. Games like this can be confusing for kids.

She might get a little confused, but most quest have quest markers to point her exactly were she needs to go. If anything it might help her reading as she will have to read some notes. Think of it as Skyrim the educational tool.

Thanks man. I'll pick this up for her.

Hit level 23 last night

Finished the thieves guild questline too. That Nightingale armor and sword are pretty bad ass.

I don't think Skyrim is a good game for such a young child. There's a lot of reading to do and a lot of lore to learn. Just the name of the spells are things children are not used to: Equilibrium, Transmutation, Reanimate Dead, etc. Even the shout names: Unrelenting Force is the basic shout but it's a hard word for a child!

There are so many games better suited for children, I would wait a little while before pushing my child in the "deep end"...
