Skate crew get in here. Rodney Mullen VS Daewon Song

Ed Templeton.. Jamie Thomas.. Mike Maldonado

epic

Thomas' intro is epic for so many reasons. that basketball court where you see him land that sketchy treflip - the floor used to be super fucked up/really hard to skate on. then that 50/50 down the rail, that used to be known as the "Death Rail", I've witnessed people destroy themselves on that rail. that whole area, aka the infamous Brooklyn Banks, there used to be tons of crackheads there, but I have a LOT of memories/stories from the years spent skating there & all over the city.

So many good clips. I was gonna post some, but just too many to name, so i'll leave some classic pics of classic styles.

Natas and Gonz are street skating. Rodney is amazing, and a really nice guy who contributed a ton of tricks to skating, but it wasn't until later on (Rubbish Heap, Plan B) that he got into street skating. He never had the style and aesthetic that they had. Nothing wrong with that, and i'm not taking away from his obvious contributions, but even by his own admission he was a freestyle guy and it took him quite awhile to transition to street skating.

Lol @ being a gatekeeper for street skating.

The entirety of street skating itself was progressed almost entirely by The Godfather himself, and you sit on your throne made of lies, espousing unforgivable atrocities such as the idea that because someone looked cooler while doing a basic ass BS boardslide down a 3 foot rail, that fact alone makes them more historically important.

Foh with your nonsense.

Agreed. Skateboarding has been street since day one, and modern “street” is a direct descendant of freestyle.

There's a lot more names people should know besides Hawk and Mullen. Despite it's niche appeal, Skateboarding has a pretty decent history to delve into.
Absolutely. It's such a misunderstood culture. People talk about sports building mental fortitude but skaters stand up there with the most mentally tough people I've met.

its been a loooonnnngggg time since ive heard the clink-clink sound of skaters cruising the streets.

I still have these, boxed up & in mint condition. the infamous EK01s

bro if you skate you know you can't compare these kinds of styles if you wanna be real by today's standards all the super ramp dudes are the best like Bob Burnquist, Danny Way, or dudes who just go big like Aaron Homoki. It takes a different kind of skill set to do almost everything in skateboarding, there really isn't anyone who can do it all. Bob can fucking roll in on a 15-20 foot bowl with pool coping on a surfboard with trucks, that shits fucking out there. Jaws has the world's biggest ollie at like 30 feet high. Shit and dudes like Kevin Kowalski tear up big shit padless. There's still room for people like Sammy Baca and Andy Roy because of style makes or breaks you because no one really cares about Nyjah or Sheckler. Daewons another beast in his own right, dude rides trucks without any fucking bushing at the loosest settings he can get and Rodney Mullen is a fucking tech wizard as well

I come from the opposite world of this.

yeah, Danny Way will always be a legend (love the guy) & Burnquist has undetectable switch for the most part, but vert is boring as all hell.

going big is awesome, but big tech is where it's at. Jeremy Wray used to run shit, & Shecks is carrying that torch by going far beyond into greater atmospheres.

I personally love the way Malto & Westgate skate. those two motherfuckers are nasty. Bryan Herman too.

I don't know, I used to skate with a dude who could miller flip the deep end of potrero skate park in SF. I also skated with a dude who could do andrew Reynold style tre flips down huge sets and the flying acrobatics were always more entertaining to me but I grew up skating bowls. Shit I learned how to drop in before I even knew how to skate down the street. Still, if you have no style the tricks just look like crap. I had another buddy who could grind and air like everything but it was so ugly, like the opposite of steeze. I like to rep all the locals though, like Mark Suciu and Brad McClain. It might just be me but I get more stoked off watching someone struggle to nail a trick sometimes and dudes like david gravette ring a bell. Their all different genres if you ask me, just like dudes who can tear up parking blocks and highway dividers, slappys are hard as fuck

Been skating 15 years. I vote Daewon, but both are legends of skateboarding and Rodney created a lot of tricks. I wasn’t big into the freestyle skating.. My top 5 all time favorites are: Reynolds, Rowely, Koston, Cardiel, & Vallely. I was a Emerica/Baker kid growing up if you know what I mean.

I'm pretty sure most of you haven't skate for a long time if you're still tripping on Rodney and guys like Giger and Lastra trying to replicate those ugly ass trick.
Do yourself a favor and go watch Mark Suciu Verso or Inhabitat and any shane f$cking oneil part.
Or any atlantic drift video
Also prop for posting fancy lad.

P.s i really feel bad saying this but the only good things that might come out of the covid19 is the cancellation of tokyo2020.
Seriously, F*ck the olympics

Agreed with both of these. Most people aren't aware of what some people are doing. Go to The Berrics Instagram right now and they can also see crazy tech shit by the same guys who can kill rails and have great style.

I still have these, boxed up & in mint condition. the infamous EK01s2

Put them on Ebay! I sold an old ES pair still in the box (dont remember the model on top of my head, they were looking like astonaut boot, maybe 98) for 160$ !
