Six Good Movies with Shockingly Low Rotten Tomatoes Scores

Words of wisdom my man, words of wisdom.

Too often are films getting poor reviews because they don't fall into the 'heart wrenching, slow burning sophisticated drama' subset. Some films, their entire purpose is just some fun. They don't try to be anything else, it's unfair to judge them by metrics they're not for.

For example, you can't judge a Family Movie (something like a pixar or dreamworks animation) and a Horror Movie on the same metrics, they have completely different demos and ultimately different goals.

So why pretentious prudish critics sometimes throw films under the bus for not being The Godfather or Citizen Kane is beyond me. They are capable of judging films differently, they often fawn over Marvels films. But they're far too choosey with what they will or will not give a pass to.
i completely agree

especially for like 'fun' movies, say like the brendan fraser Mummy or shit even Scorpion King. Objectively those are entertaining movies that a whole family could watch, and shouldn't be expected to be like other period epics like say Braveheart or even like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

But then you get other movies that kinda fall into that genre, perhaps more violent but deemed as just dumb action movies that I don't think get the props they deserve either. Shoot em Up is the premiere example that kinds to mind, i love that movie. The style, acting from Giamatti and Owens, Belluci just being sexy all set it apart from other ridiculous over the top movies like the Transporter series or F and F series IMO

Boondocks Saints and Starship Troopers are both horrendous movies.

I do agree that Robocop is the superior film.

Starship has some interesting stuff in it though. Maybe consider reading some analysis on it and then giving it a rewatch. It could change your perspective.
It's just too awful, man. I'm sorry. I'll never try again with that movie.

i mean it does have Ironside doing Michael Ironside things....

that's always a plus

Today @Mike and I decided to ride together, die together in our appreciation for Mortal Kombat. Together we defended it against our common enemy @TrueBias--don't worry TrueBias, we still love you--who in a low-life, no good, what-in-the-hell-are-you-doing-son kind of move, tried to drag that film's good name through the mud.

I think Mortal Kombat is a good movie and probably the best video game adaptation of all time. Thankfully, a band of brothers rose up in that thread and agreed. But with an RT score of only 34%, it looks like the critics are largely on TrueBias's side.

I think that's a shitty score and it made me wonder what other good films have gotten lower-than-deserved RT scores. Here's six.

Some of those are definitely a little surprising. Starship Troopers sucked though.

TMNT is a brilliant movie in its own right. A good portion of the dialogue was way over the heads of the target audience, and the character development of Raphael and his relationship with his family is better emotionality than anything we see in modern comic book adaptations.

<WellThere>

its the most accurate military movie ive ever seen, ever. and yes ive seen full metal jacket. and platoon. and whatever else you're gonna try to bring up. Starship Troopers is THE best example of exactly how joining the military will change your life. Period. It's awesome. Plus it's just a whole lotta fun.

Haven't read through the whole thread but Equilibrium is the first film that comes to mind. Still blows my mind that it has a 38% on rotten tomatoes.

In a way I kinda get it with Home Alone. If I remove the nostalgia and heartwarming Christmas atmosphere, it is pretty weird that this movie is played straight for an hour and 10 minutes and then out of fucking no where becomes a slapstick living cartoon.

That being said fuck you if you don't like it and if that score doesn't make you feel like a child on Christmas morning then you have no heart

Side note: first time I've listened to that this "holiday season". Feels good man.

Wow! The thread title name is quite apt. I enjoyed all these movies and Boondock Saints is a top ten for me. Clue is up there too.

I understand people not liking those but who in their right mind doesn't get Spaceballs?

<DisgustingHHH>

For how much you guys are bitching about Clue I expected it to have a way lower score

60% is not bad

I like all those movies

Critics can suck my ass. Who even becomes a critic anyway? How does one sell out to the point where they allow themselves to be such a lowlife, uncreative fuck that all they do is talk shit or heap praise on other people's work for a living.

waste of life imo

Boondock Saints is on pretty much every "When Rotten tomatoes got it wrong" list

You expected a film that doesn't have a single perceptible flaw to have a lower score?

Are you a madman? What's your problem with Clue?

Could have been much better if they stuck more to the storyline. More of the die hards would have came out to watch.
they did a decent job

they got too much story in the sequel and fucked it all up

i think keeping it simple was the best strategy
