Wild at Heart doesn't get enough love

Although as good as Cage was in it, Bobby Peru stole the show for me

Willem Dafoe's Bobby Peru, and also arguably the greatest cameo in film history (Crispin Glover)

I think Mortal Kombat is a good movie and probably the best video game adaptation of all time. Thankfully, a band of brothers rose up in that thread and agreed. But with an RT score of only 34%, it looks like the critics are largely on TrueBias's side.
Siskel and Ebert gave it 2 thumbs up

good enough for me

Punisher Warzone deserves better

fuck the critics

@shadow_priest_x You should make a list with high scores that are shitty ie Iron Man 2 & 3 and mostly Disney films.

Who gives a shit about critics?

They were all wannabe Siskel & Eberts and want bribes from studios in exchange for good reviews for mediocre movies.

And don't get me started on the horrible movies that critics loved so much it seemed like they were writing the reviews while getting their dicks sucked by prostitutes sent by the studio.

Fuck critics.

I bet 8mm has a low rating. Crtiics shit on it because the script was notorious before it even came out. The movie is toned down from the script but all the critics thought it was jsut made to shock and a gimmick and never gave it a chance. But the movie is really good. Great performance by Cage.

Surprised by Home Alone.

Boondock Saints isn't as good as it's hype. I never understood the love for it. it's a cult movie, sure, but it's not a cinematic masterpiece and the director proved that he can't strike gold twice. It was a cheesy, violent movie about vigilantes. Don't get me started on Willem Defoe's intro. The dumbest, most over done introduction for a not-even-great character. It was like he was bringing out his inner Nicolas Cage, and not from Leaving Las Vegas. Everything about that character screams that they tried too hard. Also, they couldn't even cast anyone who resembled a mobster, or write decent joke for their comic relief.

Spaceballs and Home Alone should definitely be rated higher.

Starship Troopers should be much, much lower.

Should've been r rated
Literally zero chance it was getting made with an R rating in the early 90s. It's like when people score 10/10 rounds. It's theoretically possible, but judges never use that score so it's pointless.

The game itself was NC17

The simple fact of the matter is that a lot of theaters really do take the age requirement seriously. Hell, I still remember trying to go see Hard Target with my friends when I was 12 and not being able to get a ticket because an adult wasn't with us. We had to go see Only the Strong instead.

Video games in the mid-90s were still largely looked at as children's toys. The children of that era had not yet grown up into the adult gamers of today, so of course the movie was made in a way that kids would easily be able to go see it.

Mortal Kombat ended up making $122 million on a (extremely well-utilized) budget of only $18 million. I can guarantee you--yes, I guarantee--that it would not have come close to that box office take if it had been rated R.

Ratings are serious business at theatres. I worked at one and when South Park came out, one of us was assigned on opening weekend to watch the door so no minors would sneak in.

Working at the movies was the shit. Pay sucked but it was fun because of the co workers and free movies and food.

Frankly, I've never understood why theaters take ratings that seriously. It's not like it's a law.

But like you say, they do.
