*sigh* Gray Maynard at 145

The sad truth is, sometimes it's not the fighter not accepting it's over, it's just that they have no other options to make money. I don't know if that's the case with Gray, but it very well could be. I would assume a guy with Gray's wrestling credentials, a coaching opportunity would open right up, but you never know. Gray doesn't seem like the guy with a bunch of yes men surrounding him, so someone must have sat him down and had "the talk" with him.

It's the saddest thing about these guys, the thing that they have that made them believe they could be great, the thing that makes them think their different to everyone else is the same thing that stops them from hanging it up. Gray came about as close to UFC gold without winning it as anyone in the history of the UFC has, on different nights with different referees, his entire career could have been different. That's got to be tough to take, it's got to eat at him every day and that's probably part of why he's still at it. To get that close but to never be able to claim that he was world champion, it's something no one on this forum can even possibly begin to imagine.

This will only end very badly. It's over Gray, please retire.
