Sicario is Still Denis Villenueve’s Best Film

She felt too blatantly American in a movie taking place in a fictional future. Either way, it would have been fine if they stayed to the original story and didn't put the focus on Chani going forward by having her run away on a sandworm.

Yeah! What in the BLUE FUDGE was that about?!?! She KNEW that Paul is royalty and marriages between rival royal powers happen. It just felt...

WRONG.

Bladerunner 2049 is criminally underrated imo. I think many people just don't like noir in this day and age. I thought it was great and beautiful to look at. The world building was amazing. This movie blows Sicario out of the water, although I did like Sicario. Arrival is another that relies on slow burn thought provoking ideas. The performance were amazing. I rank that above Sicario as well. I put the Dune movies slightly ahead of it as well. They were cinematic triumphs, from sets and cinematography to world building and performances.

so many people skipping over Arrival in this thread, its one of the best Sci-Fi films of all time IMO

I mean, when you look at Denis’ filmography, it’s striking how much really good stuff he has helmed in a relatively short period of time. I think he’s clearly one of the best directors working today.

Tough for me pick a favorite but Blade Runner: 2049 was not only great, in my opinion, it was one of those rare decades later sequels that actually delivered.

Sicario was really well done. I was surprised that Benicio didn’t get a best supporting actor nomination. He commanded the screen in that film. Great actor.
