Should they just allow fence grabs?

Its a weird rule if u think about it. Wrestlers can use the fence to push guys up against and trap them. But the other guy can’t use it to hold himself up? That seems to be a rule that favors grapplers.

If there was no fence, lots of guys wouldn’t be able to get people down.

it also helps with action too, takedowns have to be clean and technique driven, over use of the fence.

If the fence helps to trap guys, then imagine what it would be like if the trapper was also allowed to grab the fence and really seal in the poor opponent in between him and the cage links. That's the reason fence grabs were made illegal in the first place.

They should only be allowed for fighters in a defensive posture, not for the aggressor. To give strikers a needed advantage against wrestlers.

It's a tough one. I think the vast majority of fence grabs are just a visceral instinct rather than an intentional way to cheat. If you are falling down (or being taken down in the case of MMA) it's your natural instinct to reach and grab something to prevent yourself from going down.

I think human instinct overrides sporting rules in this case.

Imagine if instead of Fences, there would be Walls of Plexiglass

They can use the incline pit from Karate Combat. Wouldn’t even need a cage obscuring the audiences view at that point. Can even make it a steeper gradient.
Except anybody with floor seats wouldn’t be able to see shit. Probably not the best idea to put a barrier that can’t be seen through between the most expensive seats in the barn, and the action.

The fence stops takedowns and helps u get up (wall walking) too ..

Its a two street..as far as it being used legally

However grabbing the fence when being taken down is a major foul in my book...it forever alters the fight ..and wastes your opponents energy he cant simply get back..

No. The fence is supposed to be a barrier, not an assistive device. Should we start hanging ropes in the cage to help downed fighters?

Opinion after several high profile fights end on TKO's caused by finger dislocations:

"Fence grabbing needs to be illegal."
