As an FFL I send nothing to anyone that contains the name of the purchaser, type of weapon purchased or serial number of the weapon. That stays in my local records on the 4473. So yes, I guess any gun I sell or transfer is "registered" in my records but not in any official registry.

And because of FOPA, the ATF needs a warrant to get FFL customer and inventory information anyways right?

How many of these mass shootings have been done with privately purchased firearms anyway? The vast majority are purchased through an licensed dealer. Seeing as outrage of these shootings is probably what has you engaged in this discussion, why is hypothetically preventing something that didn't even happen the crux of your argument?

I'm suggesting people who own guns now, can keep their guns. But going forward do things better.
 
18 U.S. Code § 926 (a)(3):
No such rule or regulation prescribed after the date of the enactment of the Firearms Owners’ Protection Act may require that records required to be maintained under this chapter or any portion of the contents of such records, be recorded at or transferred to a facility owned, managed, or controlled by the United States or any State or any political subdivision thereof, nor that any system of registration of firearms, firearms owners, or firearms transactions or dispositions be established. Nothing in this section expands or restricts the AG's authority to inquire into the disposition of any firearm in the course of a criminal investigation.

The ATF can stop by any time and collect every name & firearm in any FFL's Bound Book. In the case of the FFL using eForm 4473, I imagine they just copy everything on to a USB drive.

All of that goes right into the eTrace system at ATF's National Tracing Center (in Martinsburg, WV) and is perfectly legal - EVEN THOUGH ANY 8 YEAR-OLD WOULD CONCLUDE THAT IT IS A FUCKING REGISTRY. Why? Because they started doing it before FOPA.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I'm a small, home-based FFL and haven't had an ATF inspection or any contact from them since my initial interview.

All I know is that I'm expected to maintain my records for 20 years and surrender my log book to the ATF when I no longer hold the FFL.

The ATF agent who conducted my initial interview didn't mention anything about ever getting a copy of my records like that during an inspection. They just go through the 4473's and make sure I'm completing them correctly and that my inventory matches my A&D book. Which shouldn't be too difficult in my case since I normally just do custom orders for folks. :)

Better how?

Including due process in the creation of any "list" that could be used to remove a right to buy a firearm?

Enforcing our current laws and prosecuting straw purchasers and rogue FFLs would also help.

Getting rid of "gun free" zones would also help IMO.

I like how instead of explaining your position, you sent me links to shitty Rolling Stone articles written by nobodies. Have these people told you what you should believe?

The essence of the 2nd amendment is to protect one self from tyranny. Without the 2nd amendment, what is to protect us from tyranny in the US? Are we to simply put all of our trust into the federal government?

Do you trust law enforcement to protect you from the criminal element? (Mind you, when seconds matter, police are minutes away.)

If "All the mass shootings and death toll" is the issue, where is the call to outlaw automobiles that kill over 43,000 people in the US every year? (Again, 248 deaths by rifles in general, that includes assault rifles.)
 
what is an assault weapon? I don't really want people walking around with gatling guns like the Terminator but an Ar-15 is perfectly fine.

After they ban AR-15's they will start calling handguns "Assault Handguns" and ban them until we have nothing left to defend ourselves with except kitchen knives.

Don't hold your breath. There's a snowflake's chance in hell they could repeal it through the amendment process. When it is gone, or effectively so, it's going to be through incrementalism.

But frankly, granted the trajectory of power accumulation by the federal government, it's possible you'll severely regret that position.

its abnormal for a reason. normal people that are not crazy or out hunting shouldn't carry weapons that can kill someone in 2 seconds. the law knows this for a guy who wants to be a modern day samurai and carry 2 swords but not for a guy who wants to be john fuckin wayne. fix your laws bro. i get into a fight with a drunk guy i might get shoved/punched. i get into fight with a guy with a gun i get internal organ damage and possibly death.

A knife can kill someone in 2 seconds too, and if you get into a fight with someone that has one you're also going to get internal organ damage. Both of those should be a good deterrent for you not to walk around trying to start fights like an asshole.
