With the recent Orlando shootings, I'm curious what the response will be on here. Should gun licensed citizens be allowed to have these type of weapons? Apparently the shooter was using a
SIG Sauer MCX semi-automatic rifle and 9mm Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol.

They are already banned, modifying an AR 15 to make it fully automatic is illegal, if I'm not mistaken. The way they are sold in stock do not meet the qualifications of assault rifle, they're only semi automatic.

He wasn't using an AR15. He was using a Sig MCX. Similar but not an AR15.

Also an assault rifle has select fire capabilities. An AR15 does not have select fire.

9 Million of them in the US. 350 people murdered per year with them.

Numbers would then question why we would not ban knives since way more than 350 people are murdered per year with knives? Did this video traumatize you and give you temporary PTSD?

Does a video of a car going REALLY REALLY fast scare you enough to make you want to ban them? Considering how many deaths per year are directly attributed to excessive speed...

Btw the lower in the video is an M16. A legal transferable lower is like 20k+.

They were testing the limit of the AR15 Upper receiver. You op is a little bit disingenuous.

No. An actual "assault rifle" is already hard to get and expensive. What the Orlando shooter used was a semi-auto rifle. And it wasn't even an AR-15.

Oh shit. Good catch. The weapon above is definitely a $20,000+ and a massive pain in the ass to get through the ATF.

This poll is fucking stupid and now completely irrelevant to the video.

(BTW - the stats say that the weapon in the video has a history of killing exactly ZERO people here in America in the past 50 years)

But, maybe some day in the future someone will kill someone with this weapon? Ban it in case?

I'd like to see full background checks
and
No fly = No buy

No fly is stupid.

How about some elevated level(confirmed that they have ties or are a real potential threat) on the terror watch list. I say that because some people have been on the no fly and terror and found to have done absolutely nothing to get on it.

The term "assault rifle" is almost meaningless. They should debate specific features they want to ban or control.

Notice op using "they" as if op already surrendered freedom to make decisions.

Following with full auto rifle video as a representation of "assault style rifles".

Since you voted not sure. What features or whatever do you want banned.

Aren't all weapons, "assault weapons"? Seems sort of redundant. I can't wait until they start calling a Glock an "assault pistol" or "assault handgun".

What? Fuck no!

You shouldn't have to have a license to own a firearm.
“If the State converts a right (liberty) into a privilege, the citizen can ignore the license and fee and engage in the right (liberty) with impunity.” (Shuttlesworth v. City of Birmingham, Alabama, 373 U.S. 262)

If you're looking for a perfect system, it ain't gonna happen. But it's better than doing nothing.

You are aware that the ACLU successfully sued the federal government over the no-fly list, right? So no, it's not better than doing nothing.

Not many. Things like flash suppressors and threaded barrels should be fine, as well as pistol grips and folding stocks. The only features that could really make sense to control are semi-auto fire and magazine size limits. It would piss off enthusiasts, but at least those things actually make sense in the context of reducing mass shooting casualties. I personally don't want semi-auto banned, but I could grudgingly accept some magazine restrictions. They should at least be on the table for debate.
