Why should they get paid less? Their union negotiated a contract and that's why they get paid what they do. They players are the ones that generate the income for the owners and for the league. They get what they deserve. That's like saying electricians should get paid less. I don't get the reasoning behind your statement. The NBA generates massive amounts of revenue from different areas.
 
They should get 10x what NBA players make.

Print the money from the magical money monster in the sky, or ask for donations from fans who won't buy PPVs.

UFC generated around $600 million in 2018.
NBA generated $8.76 billion in 2018.

The NBA generated 14.6 times more revenue than the UFC in 2018.

If UFC rookies made less than $61,507 in a year, then it'd be fair to criticize the UFC, but that salary is precisely 14.6 times less than the NBA rookie salary (which reflects the difference in revenue of the two sports).
 
They have collective bargaining and they get paid from a cut of the NBA’s total revenue. Entry level contracts were negotiated by the big money players reps to be what they are.

NBA and MLB players get a nearly 50 percent share of total revenue. That’s what the league of 30 franchises makes total combined, now consider that UFC is more or less equivalent in value and revenue to a single NBA franchise and that would partially explain why they don’t have guys they don’t even use making nearly a million a year.

18 percent is too small a share for the talent, but even if it was closer to 50 percent..no way they could collectively bargain for low level talent to make that much more money than they are making now. Nowhere near what a bench warming bum makes in the NBA. The money wouldn’t be there.The top guys would get a whole lot richer though

No one said they have to be geniuses. But they do have to train their entire life to make it. Start at a young age probably like 6 or 7. Be blessed with physical attributes, athletic abilities, coordination, etc.. Be the best player in their high school, college team, and they still might never get a shot at the nba. Whereas MMA you have some guys that trains for a few years and they’re in.
 
NBA rookies play up to 82 games a year including a playoff run. UFC rookies fight 3-5 a year max. These comparisons don't make any sense. When the NBA has over 40X the amount of times to make money off of your performances is why they make more money, its that simple.

I wonder how UFC would do if they decide to split revenue evenly with their fighters. Make every card free. Show more ads to make up for lost revenue in return you get more viewers and potentially grow the fanbase and increase the talent pool in the future to compete with other sports.

It's not about how dangerous the sport is, it's about how much revenue it can draw. NBA is still a far bigger entity than the UFC and generates more money, therefore, they can afford to pay their athletes more. Also on top of that, they have a players union which allows them to negotiate their worth to the highest amount possible, something fighters don't have. Because of that, a UFC fighter is pretty much beholden to whatever amount the UFC is willing to pay them.

Also, the barrier for entry is orders of magnitude higher to get into the NBA than the UFC.

You can't really compare the UFC to the NBA is this respect.

LOL what? Its a so much harder to be the 12th man on the bench in the NBA than it is to be a contender in the UFC. The NBA and basketball has a way deeper talent pool, makes way more money and is way more popular than MMA and the UFC. Of course they deserve more than UFC fighters. Its much harder to make it
 
When will some of you dumb fucks figure out that combat sports and team sports are vastly different and utilize vastly different pay models and financials?

I agree that fighters should be paid more but you will never see fighters being paid as much as rookie NBA or NFL players. Period.
 
While its true the UFC pays peanuts, its a whole different game regarding pay, or revenue, for instance, the worst team, the absolute worst team still gets to play against the most popular team every year, fighting doesnt work like that, they play certain number games almost no matter what, fighting doesnt work like that, and the level of revenue cant be compared, while the entry pay it its still peanuts, its directly related to the amount of eyes they bring in, teams have loyal fan base, they could lose every game and they would still have a crowd, specially against the popular teams, simply cant be compared.

Also, talent pool, but you already knew that.

No. There's is nothing dana can do. In the end it's a sport where people beat the shit out of each other. Basketball is going to appeal more to a wider audience. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
 
Why does everyone care about fighter pay? Fighter's know what they are getting into and are signing the contracts..If they don't like what UFC is paying there is Bellator/PFL or One.. They have a choice
