The UFC will host its first event in the Republic of Ireland in nearly five years this August. On Thursday afternoon, mixed martial arts’ premiere promotion announced its long-awaited return to the Fair City. The UFC’s fourth trip to Dublin will take place at the 3Arena, which they last visited in October 2015, on August 15. Unsurprisingly, the announcement of the UFC’s long-awaited return to Ireland has led to talk of Conor McGregor headlining the card.

McGregor, of course, headlined UFC Fight Night 46 in July 2014 and produced a seminal moment in the history of Irish MMA by stopping Diego Brandao in front of a sold-out crowd at what was formerly known as The O2 Arena. ‘The Notorious’ is keen to fight on home soil before it’s all said and done, and reiterated that desire during the UFC 246 post-fight press conference.

No way he headlines a fight night. And he already laid out his schedule for this year. Didn’t he say April then September?

Lol shit title. He's only fighting in Vegas or NYC unless it's a stadium show.

No way he fights on that card if it's not a PPV.

He'll be there. For Conor it's about national pride. Not money.

Conor should definitely headline some Ireland event at some point.

It won't be a Fight Night though lol.

Families are currently hiding their elderly fathers and young female daughters/relatives because you know that conor is gonna be pissed for two week straight (a week before and after) with elder abuse and rape on his mind.

Maybe Conor wants a FN record?

He could take a deserved opponent on such a card also, as opposed to a marquee name and many have proposed a potential match with Justin Gaetche and this would be a suitable platform for that fight to take place.

Did his ppv vs Cowboy flop, and now they’ll put him on a fight night against some scrub at 170 to try to gain interest back?

    This makes no sense.

Yeah, because there isn't time to between now and June to change this fight night to a ppv.

UFC are most likely waiting to see how things fall into place with the fights that have already been booked.

Conor only fights in Vegas where the UFC can charge ridiculous amounts for tickets

We're talking millions, they aren’t leaving that gate money on the table

I'll add to the chorus claiming bullshit. No way Conor will be fighting there for UFC Fight Night... Might be attending but I seriously doubt he will be booked to fight anyone.
