Buy the whey, buy a big bag o' dextrose, mix with milk, throw some nut butter in there, wham bam instant gainer shake. That way you have some serious calories going, with the option of leaving stuff out if you need to.
 
Chocolate milk + protein powder post-workout is the tits.
 
So are you suggesting that it would be more beneficial to take that as a post workout drink rather than a general nutrition supplement (2-3 servings a day as per recommendation)?

if you are a real hard gainer, then yes. if you put on bf really fast then i wouldn't recommend it.
 
I once bought this 15lb bucket of gainer on sale for 15. It was a good deal so i couldn't pass it up. I used it as a shake base for my whey. That was a one time deal tho. I think generally, weight gainers aren't worth it.

Whey + complex carbs is the way to go outside the workout window.
