Shogun Got Screwed Against Machida The First Time

Punches to the head > kicks to the leg.

Welcome to the Machida Era.

Why? A robbery is a robbery, regardless of how long ago it was.

What difference does my age make, muthafucka?

Yeah, people tend to not give a shit if something is no longer relevant. Which this isn't.

Nobody gives a shit. Shut the fuck up.

I dont understand why people see second fight as act of justice....Machida did not do anything wrong. He gave his best, while judges clearly did not.
Yeah you’re right. It’s not Machida’s fault the judges scored it for him. Still it was vindication for the Shogun fans at the time

Something is relevant as long as people care or have an opinion about it, and that has nothing to do with how long ago it was.

If nobody gave a shit, this thread wouldn't have the number of replies it does and people wouldn't bring it up every time the subject of robberies come up. It is you, not I, that needs to STFU, princess.

This is why I always just accept the judge’s decision and move on.

Look at this joker. 8 years later and he’s crying on here like a little girl about a fight. There is nothing more pathetic in mma fans than acting like a little whiny child.

Suck it up, princess.

Wonder if shogun wishes he got robbed in the second so he didn't have his career ended by Jones.

I just saw this fight for the first time after hearing about the robbery it was for so long. Close fight, but Shogun still clearly won.

Round 1: Could have scored it either way
Round 2: Shogun
Round 3: Machida probably edged it with his flurry at the end, but this too, could have been scored either way
Round 4: Shogun
Round 5: Shogun

Where's the argument that Machida won? Horrible decision by the judges.

They literally couldn't see the fight from where they were sitting. One of the judges acknowledged afterwards that upon review of the video it was clear that Shogun won

[Nelson "Doc"] Hamilton was one of the three judges who controversially scored that fight 48-47 in favor of Machida. Yet after watching tape of the fight, Hamilton now believes Rua was the winner. “There was a round in that fight [Round 4] where my line of sight while they were standing was blocked,” said Hamilton, who feels TV monitors for judges would solve the problem. “Because of the angle where most of the round was fought, I couldn’t see the punches and whether they were landing. If the fight had been on the ground, I could look at the big screens, but this was a fight where the blows were coming one at a time and you don’t want to look away and miss an important blow.”

When Hamilton saw the fight again, he noted that viewers saw Round 4 from a completely different perspective that he did…based on what he couldn’t see from his cageside vantage point, he believes Rua won the round.

And Cecil Peoples was one of the other judges. Easily the worst decision in MMA history

Shogun should have gotten the win. I think Dana was angry about the judging as well, what I remember was that Dana paid Shogun's win money as well after the match.

Cecil Peoples didn't count Leg-Kicks as scored striking... But Shogun got the belt in brutal fashion later on...

One of the worse decisions in mma. One judge changed his mind and said SHogun won, the other judge basically admitted he can't score a fight right using the criteria

I scored the fight for Machida. Not rewatching that shit now though. It was a close and competitive fight, and the only crime is that people instead of talking about how great the fight was, decide to instead bitch about their Shogun losing to this day.

What a pity.

This might be my favorite fight ever, when paired with the rematch. I was a massive Shogun fan at the time and misunderstood Machida, I thought it was a pretty clear win for Shogun. But then I watched it again after a few years and realized it was a close fight, by no means a robbery. Eventually I would give Machida the nod after learning his counter style and knowing how dangerous he was when he threw a strike. These days it depends on my mood, I can see both guys having a claim, but I think it's a good case for a draw. Luckily Shogun won the immediate rematch definitively and we got a satisfying conclusion where both guys walked away with a win.

Ah the fight that brought me to sherdog.

Shogun won but close fight. Judges blew it doe

You gotta beat the champ to be the champ. Which is exactly what Shogun did in the rematch.

U just now seen it?

But the three rounds that Shogun won weren't really close; He was landing the harder and more significant shots.
