Shinya Aoki UFC material yet?

Nothing brings out arguments from five years ago like an Aoki thread.

Saying he got mauled by Gilbert is an insult to Hansen and Sakurai.
It's like saying Anderson Silva mauled Demian Maia.
Quoted for motherfucking truth.

Mach DESTROYED Aoki, that shit was legit scary lol.

Very good to see one more Sherdogger who watches MMA sober rather than jumping on the bandwagon to poo poo Shinya Aoki to try to be kewl.

Gilbert barely did anything to Shinya and won via point fighting. If Shinya had his opponent on his back, it would be over via submission.

Not point fighting exactly, but let's just say that out of 5 guys that beat Aoki, Melendez is the only one that didn't get the finish. But for some reason, people think that loss is the reason he is scared (?) to fight in America.

still gives me nightmare.. dem thuds from the knee shots [YT]rt4jRJ4FC-I[/YT]

Aoki scurred to fight in America herp derp, he only fights small Japanese fighters with no power, wrestling or submission defense herp derp.

Great win and yes, scary ko, i am a big Mach's supporter, but to be honest with the ufc rules it will not end in that way.

Lol, yes, and for a grappler with that rules it's even worse.
So, none can say he is not taking some risks.

Aoki's biggest win was when he beat Hellboy via Gogoplata, made me a fan but then he turned heel.

Have to admit, I was pretty happy when Nagashima ko'd Aoki during their special rules bout.

1st Round - Kickboxing rules, Aoki basically broke every rule, running away, clinching, even throwing a couple drop kicks, his game plan was to stall as much as he could till the 2nd round started and he could bring the fight to the ground.

2nd Round - to no one's surprise, bell rings - Aoki shoots in for a takedown and Nagashima greets Aoki's jaw with a flying knee nearly decapitating Aoki.

of course he is good enough to fight in the UFC, he'd be a top 11-20 fighter, somewhere in that range.

He just can make more money and be a champ and star and fight closer to home.

I love how the Aoki fans love to pretend that fight never happened even though Aoki got iced in the MMA part of the fight.

there are a ton of guys in the UFC that Aoki would handle easily.

He certainy isn't in the UFC because he's a shitty fighter.

Is getting iced better or worse than getting mauled? I'm trying to figure out your terminology.

I don't care how many times Shinya Aoki lost or how he lost. I'm still a fan because he's a high level finisher who doesn't give a shit... and he will do weird awkward gestures in front of ring girls, do weird schoolgirl/PE teacher photos w/Imanari, etc.

It is atrocious that he is not in the UFC.

But Aoki wouldn't be champion in the UFC. and a fighter of his caliber and just how extremely dangerous he is... is not good for the division. You don't want him crippling potential contenders and prospects left and right.

aokis been ufc material for like 9 years.

they not throwin enough money at him. it is what it is.

It's because you are a type of dude that only sees the negative in everything.
No I'm just the type of guy that can tell with his eyes that Aoki would never make it anywhere near the top 5 in the UFC.

I'm not even sure thats the reason, I think money is one of them but fighting closer to home, easier comp, being a star and champ rather than a reg guy in the UFC.
