PC Sherdog PC Build/Buy Thread, v6: My Power Supply Burned Down My House

It wasn't the bios. That was one of the first things I updated.

I'm not absolutely sure but I believe I've figured it out.

RAM profile speed faults like this with the BIOS can appear multiple uses after implementation. Then become persistent till the CMOS is reset.

Disable AMP, let the RAM run at its default setting in the BIOS. When the next BIOS revision is released install it and try to apply AMP again.

There's a Gigabyte station that alerts me to when drivers for the bios, audio, and other MB functions are ready. Worth keeping?

Also disable XMP now or disable it when I update Bios?

Unless you need the motherboards Windows application for some type of functionality. Uninstall it.

Disable XMP for now. The issue will only arise again in a few minutes or days.

"Gigabyte App Center", right? It can be convenient. I kept it. I just disabled it from automatically starting up in the Task Manager.

Ctrl + Alt + Delete, then find the "Startup apps" tab. Disable anything you don't want using resources on startup, there.

Not to doubt you but can you explain why? I was experiencing the issue with HWiNFO before I activated XMP. What i mean is, what precisely is happening on post? Is it too many things trying to utilize memory on startup?

But what about Microsoft COPILOT? Don't you want five fucking AI's chiming in every thirty seconds?? Hahahahaha

Frequency that your RAM is advertised to run up to. Isnt fully supported in the currently available BIOS revision.

If you were experiencing the issue before activating XMP, then obviously XMP isn't the issue. You've controlled for that. That doesn't mean the RAM sticks themselves might not be the issue, but probably not them, either, if the issue only began with HWInfo. If it goes away when you don't run HWInfo, then I would just elect to use different monitoring hardware. You can try HWInfo again when it is updated, or report the issue and provide dump files to them if you want to be a good Samaritan.

You should disable Microsoft Edge as a startup program. Especially if using a different web browser. Edge impacts performance with specific game engine UI's.

Recently Microsoft also added a background application called Edge Game Assist. It only runs when you startup a game application. Should uninstall it.

We will find out pretty soon i imagine. Would you say worst case scenario it's the RAM and not the MoBo? I don't mind waiting for new sticks if thats the case but I would not relish the notion of putting a new motherboard in

Well, no, it could also be the motherboard, in theory, and I would consider that a worse case, since a new motherboard would involve the hassle of effectively re-assembling nearly the entire PC, but since the motherboard is indicating the RAM, I assume it's a RAM issue.

You say it was stable before HWInfo, but have you yet tried disabling AMP? See if it repeats with the RAM at the native 4800 MHz. Just remember the golden rule of troubleshooting. One thing at a time. Rule out one thing, then move onto the next.

The only game I run into issues with XMP is CS2.

Okay I think it's safe to say whatever was causing the issue is now resolved. Had two more sessions both over an hour long, resets fine. Thank Christ

Did you happen to take note of the difference in framerate on Alien Isolation between the RAM at its native 4800 MHz vs. 6400 MHz?

I'd expect you might see ~10% higher fps with the overclocking profile active.

Well I noticed that with Cyberpunk it went up with the 6400 MHz. I love it. When would you recommend putting it back to the AMP profile?

I know I'm dumb for spending that kind of money on a PC but goddamn it feels nice to use RE4's "Fuck it, max everything" option and never see it go below 240 FPS

I would recommend enabling AMP immediately. The only reason I recommended disabling it was (1) for safety in case you were going to update your BIOS, and (2) to determine whether or not it was responsible for causing the stability issue with the failed POSTs.

If you turn it back on, and the issue returns, you will have identified your culprit. So then you would try the alternative AMP profiles. Your kit has three:

Tested Frequency XMP Profile 1: PC5-51200 (6400MHz)
Tested Timings: 32-40-40-84
Tested Voltage for XMP Profile 1: 1.4V

Tested Frequency XMP Profile 2: PC5-49600 (6200MHz)
Tested Timings: 42-46-46-86
Tested Voltage for XMP Profile 2: 1.35V

Tested Frequency XMP Profile 3: PC5-48000 (6000MHz)
Tested Timings: 36-36-36-76
Tested Voltage for XMP Profile 3: 1.35V

Uh, thats a RAM stick or DIMM slot fault issue.

<{nope}>

I get the same crashes on 3 different ram kits. Those ram kits passed MemTest multiple times. They're fine.
This also happens on 2 different mobos.

CS2 is the only game that does this. I can play every other game with XMP on, and it's fine.
