Was that Crave's plan?
Simply buy a forum - no matter whether the biggest MMA forum - and a database?

The only person left on the media side that I know by name is Mike Fridley.

Everybody else got fired to save Crave money. It's really depressing.
 
WEM/IMG is buying Sherdog. Rumor if True.

Save money? Perhaps. In the short term.

But how much money can you make on the long run only from the forum?
For the stats, casuals use wikipedia (instead of the fightfinder - and it's not like the fightfinder would be a moneyprinting maching anyway).

Instead I open mmafighting almost every other day, to see what going on.
Their articles, their shows...

I think Crave's plan is lame.

Breen and TJ talked about this on his post recent podcast.

Crave thinks that they get the same amount of revenue with one permanent employee and a bunch of unpaid freelance contributors.

This is bullshit. It was the personalities on the media side of the website that drove it.

There's not going to be much left of this site besides the forum at this rate.

Sherdog is going down, remember the rapmusic.com forums? The owner sold his site for a 3 million and the new owners never did crap to promote it, the forum is dead, i used to visit that message board back in 2000 to 2005, it was filled with traffic now their newesr posts are dated back a year or two ago.

Sherwood sold it when sherdog was still hot and the main source of mma, he was smart to do so before facebook made message board obsolete.

If i were to guess he sold for more than 20 million, traffic is what people bought back in 2007. If your website is super high traffic you could sell it for big money.

Yeah, but I actually recall listening to a podcast of him saying he sold so early that he made way less than people think.
2007 wasn't 2010-2011.
I'd guess 8-9 million; more than 12-13 I'd be quite surprised.

Not as much as some have claimed, but it was still a decent chunk of change. Especially when you consider that this whole thing started as some crappy GeoCities page that Sherwood ran in his free time when he was still working for Boeing.

Adblock plus may screw the "incoming fights" div at Sherdog's main page, but it's the only downside, at least for me.
