Sega's Creative Assembly team are expanding with a new location opening in Newcastle (UK)

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/creative-assembly-has-opened-a-third-studio/

Sega Europe developer Creative Assembly has opened a third development studio.

Creative Assembly North is based in Newcastle, UK and joins the developer's headquarters in Sussex, UK and its European studio in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The new studio will work alongside the Sussex team on an as-yet unannounced project, which Creative Assembly says will "give players an unforgettable experience".

It will also host a 'continuous improvement' team, which will work across all three studios as it aims for "sustained continuous improvement in tools, workflows and development experience".

The studio will be led by Giselle Stewart, who has been involved in the video games industry for 27 years.

Stewart was general manager of Reflections, the Newcastle-based studio that was responsible for the Destruction Derby and Driver games before it was eventually acquired by Ubisoft.

She was also director of UK video game trade association TIGA for 10 years, and director of UK corporate affairs at Ubisoft for seven years.

In a statement, Stewart said: "Starting a new development studio from scratch with the full support and insights of one of the UK's oldest and largest studios is incredibly exciting.

He also says it's essential to helping the company maintain its cadence of a new Apex Legends season every 90 days.

Atari have entered into an agreement to aqcuire Nightdive Studios

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/atari-enters-agreement-acquire-night-220300554.html

PARIS, FRANCE (March 22, 2023 - 11.00 pm CET) - Atari® (the "Company") — one of the world's most iconic consumer brands and interactive entertainment producers — announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of Night Dive Studios Inc. ("Night Dive"), a full service game development and publishing company based in Vancouver, Washington, USA.

In addition, Atari, SA also announced that it intends to proceed in the near-term with a €30 million bond issue convertible into new shares of Atari (the "Convertible Bonds") in order to meet with its capital needs in the context of the implementation of its new growth strategy and refinancing of its debt.

TERMS AND TIMING OF THE ACQUISITION

The purchase price of Night Dive will consist of (i) an initial consideration of US$10 million payable half in cash and half in Atari shares at the closing of the acquisition (see below) plus (ii) an earn-out of up to US$10 million, payable in cash over the next three years based on the future performance of Night Dive.

It is expected that the acquisition of Night Dive will be completed in April 2023.

With this acquisition Atari will enrich its large library of owned IP, be able to leverage Night Dive's proprietary technology, and utilize Night Dive's publishing capabilities to support Atari's retro-focused growth strategy.

This acquisition has been approved unanimously by the disinterested members of the board of Atari, it being specified that Wade Rosen did not participate to the vote.

Wade Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Atari, commented: "Night Dive's proven expertise and successful track record in commercializing retro IP is well-aligned with Atari's strategy and I am confident that their combined talent, technology and IP portfolio will contribute to Atari's future success."

Stephen Kick and Larry Kuperman, principals of Night Dive commented: "Night Dive and Atari have a long history together and we know that Atari shares our passion for retro games and our focus on producing high-quality new and remastered games that do justice to the original IP. As we look to grow our business and expand our capabilities, we could think of no better long-term partner than Atari."

Repeating NPC dialogue may soon be behind us, if Ubisoft's AI project Ghostwriter takes off.

Ubisoft is developing an AI tool ‘that aims to support scriptwriters’
‘UBISOFT GHOSTWRITER’ WILL GENERATE NPC PHRASES AND SOUNDS

According to the publisher, ‘Ubisoft Ghostwriter’ will be used to generate the first draft of the chatter of crowds and triggered NPC lines.

While these sounds and phrases are central to immersing players in its game worlds, Ubisoft said using AI to help do so will enable its narrative teams to work on less repetitive tasks.

"While we initially intended to have an official E3 presence, we've made the subsequent decision to move in a different direction, and will be holding a Ubisoft Forward Live event on 12th June in Los Angeles. We look forward to sharing more details with our players very soon."

Looking great, thanks. Got Platinum for first; no reason not to aim for the same here. Have we a date yet for 2023/2024 release?

Nice! Was it difficult? I didn't plat it, but I loved the first one.

No set date yet for release outside of a summer 2023 timeframe, but it's one of my more anticipated titles. From the video, it looks like they have improved on every single aspect.

Control was an absolute banger and one of the biggest sleeper hits I've ever experienced (for me). Something I picked up randomly and decided to jump in one day and now has me fiending for more.

Not super hard but some boss achievements demand narrow performance windows or engineered tactics and then with quite a few missables owing to RNG/loot tables and the way map sections can be re-rolled, you're sometimes at the mercy of a few moving parts.

Title was fun though for me (for you too, it sounds like!) so it was one of those feel-good Plats and not FML/bleed for it commitments. As gamers, we all have those journeys where we double-down and suffer in quiet avowal; it's our make-up, to say, to see where our skill ceilings are – and then shatter them.

Glad it wasn't too bad. I can only imagine RNG gatekeeping a plat and how annoying that could be. Hopefully for the next game they take that into consideration. I know Returnal fans had a tough time with the plat for that reason.

There aren't too many games I've grinded on for hundreds of hours outside of Street Fighter. Although I didn't get a plat for it (it's not the type of game you'd generally shoot for it) I think I've earned my plat stripes by making into the Ultra Plat ranking. So, I know the struggle of the grind.
