They did so during the State of Unreal 2022 presentation, revealing that this Tomb Raider sequel – the fourth in this rebooted series – will be built on Unreal Engine 5. Now, Crystal Dynamics has announced that Amazon Games will publish this sequel.

"Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics today announced they have reached an agreement under which Crystal Dynamics will develop a new multiplatform Tomb Raider title, with Amazon Games providing full support and publishing the game globally," a press release reads. "The as-yet-untitled new Tomb Raider is a single-player, narrative-driven adventure that continues Lara Croft's story in the Tomb Raider series.

"It includes all the elements that have made Tomb Raider one of the most revered franchises in gaming, giving players control of the confident and multidimensional hero Lara Croft in an environment that rewards exploration and creative pathfinding, with mind-bending puzzles to solve, and a wide variety of enemies to face and overcome."
The press release says the studio is using Unreal Engine 5 to make this upcoming game the "most expansive Tomb Raider game to date." This sequel is currently in early development.

Theyre talking to the tweens who will only see their response.
Honestly don't think even the nerdiest teens will be reading settlement PR spin. It's for the investors who don't know shit about gaming haha

Interesting perspective shared by Schreier on present-day gaming production:

Makes sense. Although I'd point out that production cycles can clearly be made quicker if you hire more people and give more resources. At least to an extent. It's a shame though given how weak this current generation of game launches has been.

Russian officials and tech sector reps considering launching a Russian EA equivalent to stem game industry bleeding and champion games developed domestically.

Posturing or otherwise, either way DOA, IMO.

re: CDPR, C/punk, investor lawsuit:

Excerpt from VGC write-up:

According to the lawsuit, CD Projekt made false or misleading statements and failed to disclose that Cyberpunk 2077 was “virtually unplayable” on consoles, and “when the true details entered the market… investors suffered damages.”

A consultant for the plaintiffs had previously estimated that total potential damages could be as high as $11 million.

The $1.85 million settlement, which represents 16.8% of the estimated recoverable damages, will result in compensation of approximately $0.49 per eligible share of CD Projekt securities.

It will be used to pay class members, settlement administration costs, taxes, attorney’s fees and costs, and incentive awards for the plaintiffs.

Plans to release a standalone Cyberpunk multiplayer game were axed because of 2077’s botched release, with CD Projekt instead choosing to invest its resources in improving the already available game.

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) has increased its stake in Japan's Nintendo Co Ltd (7974.T) to 6%, a filing showed on Thursday, reflecting the sovereign wealth fund's growing exposure to the Japanese video gaming industry.

PIF's stake in the Kyoto-based company has risen from 5.01% to 6.07%, according to the ownership report filed with Japanese regulators.

PIF revealed its 5% stake in Nintendo in a regulatory filing in May last year, stating that it was made for investment purposes. It has also taken stakes in video game companies Nexon (3659.T), Capcom (9697.T), and Koei Tecmo (3635.T).

What a shame. I'm enjoying the AC series still and I was actually interested in this AC live service they were working on. The story has become a mess but the games are still fun to me.
