So I'm attempting to go keto and I'm having issues. Every time I get hungry I get in a really bad mood and start thinking really negative. When this happens my will power goes out the window and I fold and go and eat a big meal.

I'm not starving myself so it's not like I'm super hungry and that's what's causing it. Like yesterday before I broke I had 3 eggs with cheese for breakfast, for a snack before lunch I had a spinach salad, for lunch I had chicken and broccoli w/ cheese. By the time I was off work 4 hours later I was hungry and in a super bad/negative mood from it. Because of this I broke and went and had a big meal and was suddenly in a much better mood.

I don't understand why this happens. Does anyone else have a similar experience? I'm really wanting to lose about 20 pounds before summer really hits and this is holding me back.

Do you count calories & macros? Or do you just wing it with portion sizing etc. If you do count, are you hitting your daily caloric intake? Even when I'm on cut week (keto with low sodium), I don't feel weak, yes it sucks since I normally eat a crap load of carbs, but I still would feel content regardless.

From the OP, it looks like you're taking in around 1000-1500 depending on serving size. No adult male should be eating that low amount even when cutting/trimming off some pounds. A 5'4ish 130lb-ish female fitness model who lifts 5 days a week eats around 1800-2000.

I don't count I just keep portion sizes in mind. My broccoli/chicken lunch is about a cup of broccoli and a cup of chicken. How am I supposed to get adequate calories without eating carbs?

You make it up in fats

I mean outside of animal fat, what else is there to take on the go with me?
Like to work, etc?

Not much really. Cheese, avocados, maybe some nuts that are lower on the carb side. Generally the bulk of the calories comes from meat weather it be lean or smoked.

Also, any reason why you're set on Keto?

I get that way too. I straight up snap at people, then get a beer and some food in me and I feel really bad for snapping. My wife even knows to just ignore me when I'm hungry.

Low blood sugar and all that or something.

This, and hard boiled eggs, fried pork rinds, cheese string sticks, and beef jerky.

I used to add a quarter pint of heavy whipping cream in my protein shakes for the extra fat intake.

Heavy whipping cream + chocolate protein powder and water = taste like milk shakes, but it's low carb.

Like others have mentioned, make sure you're taking in adequate amount of fat so your body is able to produce ketones.

Low carb + low fat = bad juju.

That's a recipe for disaster.

I'm set on keto because
1) It's a weight loss method where you're not supposed to starve yourself. You eat adequate calories from delicious food while you lose weight
2) there is a damning amount of research out there now about the effects of carbohydrates on the body and the inflammatory effect they possess

No proper diet has you starving yourself, even when you're on a deficit to lose 1lb a week you shouldn't feel "starved", yes it sucks compared to when you're on a surplus, but you shouldn't feel starved; Unless you cold turkey-ed from a bulk straight to a cut, (since your metabolism from being on the surplus is probably at your highest) and you shouldn't be doing that anyways.
You don't have to eat 100% clean, you can be more flexible if you want to incorporate more "delicious" foods in. As long as you're within your deficit calorie range and hit your macro-nutrients for the day, thats the priority (to lose weight).

You don't like counting, but its the most accurate way to asses how you will go about things. Winging it is like spending money without counting how much you have in your account, and spending based on what you feel might be too little or much.

The reason why people who do keto might not count is because protein is more filling alongside the high fibre intake as well, which in turn has them eating at maintenance or maybe at a deficit.

If you mean by an excess amount of sugar then that makes some sense. Eat more complex carbs rather than simple carbs (sugar) if you're worried about that.

My ma told me that as a kid I was cranky when hungry, and that has remained true throughout my adult life.
It's pretty common really as well as people finding that the mild headache they had goes away after having a bite.
Them Snickers commercials don't lie

Blood glucose affects mood and self-control. Your body is adjusting from using glucose to using fat to produce ketones. Technically after a few days your body should adjust and you'll feel better.

Personally I went on a keto diet for a month, powered through it without eating any carbs. I never got used to it, felt miserable the whole time. I was very happy when I ended it and got to eat my fruits again. It's not for everyone.

It can take 1-3 weeks to adapt to it. Myself, i've never had much issues other than the first 3-5 days. Keep your fats up if you are going to keto on.
Also, on keto, i ate fruit, yams, rice, oatmeal etc. Just kept the portion sizing small as well as how much carbs i was intaking. People assume its bacon butter and eggs and no fruits or veggies. So they binge. I have a lot of delicious meals and recipes on hand if you'd like that are tasty.

OP... my whole life I got cranky when hungry. I think it's related to the low blood sugar level. Doesn't matter how I'm eating. I get cranky when I'm hungry. I have to eat approximately every three to three and a half hours. I generally eat five to six small meals a day.

I don't know how you guys do it on that keto diet. I tried it a couple of times many years ago. I loved all the bacon and cheese that I wanted. I lost fat weight while lifying regularly. But for me, it's unnatural to not have carbs. I like my bread and pasta. :)

3 eggs lol excuse me sir but are you a 6 year old girl? Keto takes a while for your body to adjust and you will feel like shit for a few weeks I believe. There is something you can take to make you go into ketones faster, you gotta look it up. Google it or something. I don't know the name. key stone powder or some shit? I dunno what it's called. It's not mandatory to take, it just speeds up you body's process to get used to the ketogenic diet.

If i was on a ketogenic diet, 3 eggs and cheese is a joke meal. Make it 4 full eggs and like 3-4 egg whites. Put a decent amount of cheese to. You won't walk around feeling hungry for the next 4-5 hours or until your next meal. This approach is better than eating like half a fruit cake fairy virgin (jk).

Just because eating tons of refined carbs isn't good for you doesn't mean you need to go keto. That's a typical overreaction. There's no need and no benefit to going keto and its a PITA
