There are some elements of it that are visually and narratively interesting in my opinion at least but the overall execution and product is pretty damn bad. I also liked the Leguizamo/Hoskins pairing but it's one strange mess.

I think Leguizamo said in his book that he and Hoskins knew they were in a shitty film and basically boozed a lot on set to help them get through it. Pretty funny if true.

Video game movie adaptations are by and large horrific. I think Mortal Kombat is probably easily one of the best ever and it's not even particularly good; it's just that it is at least fun and enjoyable.

In recent memory, I remember Maxx Payne boring my tears and making me question why I shelled out money to watch it.

I'll go out on a limb and say Leguizamo's probably telling the truth.

Okay people... can we talk about Way of The Gun?

I loved this film, despite it's tonal whiplashes and plot holes. It feelt like a mix between Michael Mann and Peckinpah. An action movie with some really smart and engaging gunplay. All the various teams of gunmen and their interests where a joy to watch. It's a movie with style and smarts in spades!

Yet it's reception seems to have been horrible! Nobody talks about this film anywhere! It has a 6.8 on IMDB and 48% on Rottentomatos!

I found it way better than similar yet well-received action-flick like... say... Boondock Saints, (and I think Boondock Saints is a very good film). Why has this movie been sweept under the rug? Is it just me or do other people like Way of the Gun too?

i liked boondock saints a lot more as a 13yo thani do now.

I just watched It's Kind of a Funny Story and loved it. Emma Roberts is fucking GORGEOUS! I'd take her over Julia 10x out of 10.

One of my favorites. I think it just got written off as a wanna be pulp fiction with existential criminals. It's an amazing modern day western with truly memorable dialogue. The whole Mexican brothel ending is my favorite shootout since the wild bunch.

Boondocks saints while enjoyable is not even in the same ballpark

My favorite bit of dialogue

Longbaugh: I've been watching them pile up. Nightstick, flashlight, bulletproof vest.
Joe Sarno: Fuckin' utility belts, right?
Longbaugh: Fuckin' sign on his head reading "Why Bother?"
Joe Sarno: Hey, they love to say shit like "ascertain".
Longbaugh: "Surveillance."
Joe Sarno: "Affirmative."
Longbaugh: "I need backup."
Joe Sarno: "Adjudicate."
Longbaugh: "Adjudicate"?
Joe Sarno: Yeah, well...
Longbaugh: But, you know, then you got the other side. You got these trigger-happy cocksuckers all about the shooting and posturing and 'you don't know who I am' kind of thing..."I been to prison."
Joe Sarno: 'cuase you got caught, dumb fuck.
Longbaugh: These days, they want to be criminals more than they want to commit crime.
Joe Sarno: Well that's... that's not just crime. That's the way of the world.

Just watched Le Mepris (Contempt) by Godard which was brilliant.

chris evan's directorial debut, before we go, felt deprived of any romantic magic. i normally like these one night in a city movies but this one didnt do it for me

funny tho, it had a scene dealing with a psychic and much like linklater's before sunrise movie, the male and female lead reacted the same way

Inside Out might be the best movie of the year so far.

Hit me in the feels multiple times throughout the movie. Really got to me in the way Up got to me. I'm not a parent but I gotta imagine that emotional impact is amplified for parents who are viewers of that film.

Great movie. Great message- pretty straightforward but profound in its simplicity and perfectly executed. 9/10 in my opinion.

Highly agree with all of that. And it was pretty hilarious.

i dont even have to have seen a trailer to know that its not better than mad max

I come in here seeing talk of The Third Man and The Maltese Falcon. Things seem to be going well. I check back in, and now people are talking about a cartoon as the best of 2015?

I've actually been watching a lot of MMA documentaries lately. Some stuff I hadn't seen in a while (The Smashing Machine is still the Citizen Kane of martial arts documentaries), some newer stuff I'd never seen before (checked out Andersono's and BJ's documentaries), a Biography profile of H

To be fair, 2015 has been weak so far. It's top two are outstanding, but it's lacking depth.

That may be true; from where I'm sitting (in my "still haven't seen most of the movies from 2011 let alone 2015" chair ) I'm not in any position to agree or disagree. But for the claim that an animated film is at the front of the pack to be even remotely justified, you'd have to *invent a new word to convey just how horrendous and miserable the year has been for film.
