Sean Strickland is the Same as Michael Bisping 10 Years Ago?

nah strickland actually beat people, tried his best. bisping was obviously propped up by easy ass matches for the duration of his career, and then he obtained gold legitimately. strickland is not bisping, and not vice versa.

In terms of reputation yes. In reality Bisping was very underrated whereas Strickland is only ranked as high as he is because MW is just awful. While AS's title opponents weren't great MW as a whole was pretty good.

Bisping was a top MW during AS's era and while he was lucky to become champ when he did was unlucky to never get a title shot earlier. After getting dropped by Hendo Hendo bounced for Strikeforce and Bisping might have been the second best MW but he was not regarded as such. A few years later he lost the coinflip decision to Chael. If he'd won that decision I believe he beats AS.

I think part of the problem with Bisping is he was a TUF alum and in the beginning TUF fighters were regarded as inferior to the established stars and when they triumphed like Forrest did people were surprised. Shad had that reputation too in the beginning but after beating Chuck and Rampage that went away. Bisping never really had a chance to shed that label instead the Hendo KO reinforced it.

Bisping destroyed Cung Le right after Cung Le 1 shotted Rich Frankin. Rich also had 2 working eyes when he got folded by Cung Le. Bisping beat him with 1.

I've already dealt with that. Bisping was 7 years younger than Cung. There was only a 2 year gap between Cung and Rich. And of course anything can happen in a fight. The preponderance of data still proves my point:

• Rich beating Wand twice while Bisping lost to him
• Both fighting prime-ish Hendo around the same time and Rich doing MUCH better, even outstriking Hendo and forcing him to barely win a LnP decision

Neither of them was supposed to actually be fighting for the title. Through very fortuitous circumstances (injury) they ended up fighting a cocky champ that had zero respect for them. And they both made the most of the opportunity. That kind of shit is one of the cool things about sports in general. The underdog can and does win sometimes. Especially in mma. You can’t overlook anybody in mma.

Rockhold doesn’t respect anybody. Neither does Izzy. It’s just too bad the post presser wasn’t like it was back then. And Izzy had to face the music like Rockhold had to.

Strickland is a bargain bin Bisping. imho

He's better than Bisping. Strickland wouldn't lose to a totally shot Wand. And Bisping's title defense against a 46-year old Hendo (who was 3-6 in his prior 9 fights) where he went life and death for 5 rounds was the lamest thing ever. Bisping is a B-grade combination of Strickland and Rich Franklin.

Yep. And despite being very old and undersized for MW, Cung also hurt Wand and Bisping in their fights. He was capable of KO-ing most fighters under the right circumstances.

Hendo knocked Bisping into a completely different dimension (first fight) before Vitor did the same thing...long before Bisping could use the "blind man" excuse. Pereira would do the same. Bisping's only prayer would be to wrestle the entire fight (something he did vs. Brain Stann to avoid striking) but I think Pereira would catch him.

I think striking wise they're close at this point in their careers I'd give the striking edge to Strickland as I think Cannonier would've melted Ping. But Bisping was a better anti-wrestler and weaponized his cardio more instead of being a pure striker for the majority of his career and I think Sonnen would easily beat Strickland where as Bisping gave him hell.
The Bisping that won the belt is championship level outboxing Silva and Rockhold back to back is insane and I don't think Strickland is quite there (despite being better than the majority believe imo)


Honestly though Bisping being a better anti wrestler seems more fitting for the era TS picked the perfect match here and both guys are earily similar.

With only one working eye if I understand the timeline correctly.

Agreed, wrestling would be his only avenue to victory. if Hendo could horrifyingly put Bisping to sleep like that, I'm sure a much better, slicker striker in Pereira could do that even quicker.

Bisping is a better fighter though. his striking improved a lot over the years and so did his TDD. Strickland looks the same as he always did to me.
