Scored 30-26 for Khamzat

What did Usman do to win the third on so many scorecards?

I understand control is not everything. We saw it in the Shara fight. Damage should outweigh lay and pray. It's not the old days where a takedown was worth the entire round. I totally get it.

But it's like we are swinging the pendulum in the entire opposite direction when Usman gets controlled for half the round and we are still giving it to him. Even if he edged the striking, it was never like Khamzat was hurt or damaged or anything at all.

I'm fine with damage outweighing grappling, but point fighting shouldn't outweigh getting controlled for half the round.

Score it whatever you want.

Khamzat's a 1-round fighter and that's it. The MMA world knows this now and will use it against him.

I’m a Khamzat fan but this is the next challenge and potential threat to his career. His gas tank is a legit issue at this point however let’s also not forget how far fetched it was that Khamzat beats Usman just a year ago on these boards as the consensus.

obviously I understand the limitations of 185 on 10 days notice. I also understand that was as underwhelming as a win gets but let’s not forget
Khamzat could have busted a Jon Jones and pulled out due to not preparing for one of the best in the world that requires a different approach than Paulo.

I don’t care how long your training camp is but if you’re preparing for Paulo then face Usman you have every right to say no as did DDP recently with Izzy due to injury and wanting rest

Anyone who thinks Usman won 3rd needs to become a mental patient

I mean Usman unequivocally won the first half of that round. Then Chimaev got a TD and lay on him for 2 mins without doing much/any damage. And the final 30 seconds Usman looked better.

So for me it’s debatable but I edge R3 to Usman on damage.

Saying I’m a “mental patient” when the round was clearly close is a bit much…

R2 Usman again did more damage but not by much and Chimaev got a TD near the end so depends whether you value slightly more damage over a TD. For me Chimaev didn’t do much on the ground after R1.

I had it 28-28 but I don’t think Usman was robbed. If anyone won it was Chimaev

The crazy thing about this fight is that 30-26 and 28-28 are both entirely acceptable scores. One clear 10-8 round and two close 10-9 rounds.

For the record, I did not score round 3 for Usman but can see the argument.

This.

Really not sure how someone else would not score round 1 a 10-8

Under the current scoring criteria, damage takes priority. Borz didn't really land much. He did dominate the grappling, but he didn't really punish Usman. I can't count that as a 10-8. Maybe under the old scoring criteria. Maybe.

I had it 28-28, but round 3 was close both ways. Usman did a lot more damage the last 2 rounds, but round was clear as day 10-8

You can get a 10-8 via grappling or striking. Plus it's also relative thing too where if your opponent does almost nothing the ceiling is lower for a 10-8.

30-26 was the only score that was viable.
4 minutes of back control R1 = 10-8.
R2 - nothing happens + Takedown = 10-9.
R3 - nothing happens + Takedown = 10-9.

30-27 is excusable.
Anyone who gave Usman a round should literally be screened and examined.
