No, I'm a regular customer at the local Looney Bin here in Wichita KS were both walk-in local comedians come in and first timers with only 5-to-10 minute sets. They're ALL funnier than Schaub is now.

Schaub's comedy audience is... his audience. Those who are already fans of his from his podcasts. Even the more funny bits from the clip in the OP practically require the audience to know he's not well-liked.

As far as I've seen he's never made an attempt to make a set for a cold audience.

The problem with Brendan is that he's simply not likeable, relatable, unique or at all interesting. The guy is not particularly bright or insightful, and on top of all that it is known that he got a leg up on the business through his connection with Rogan and his UFC/TUF TV background. In a way, he is to comedy what CM Punk or Greg Hardy were to MMA. A sort of novelty act. As such, it's expected that people are going to be tougher with him than normal.

We can even look within MMA to see a different case. Compare him with someone like Derrick Lewis, who is likeable, unique, legitimately funny, creative, original and has natural charisma. People would actually clamor for him to do standup because he comes across as authentically funny.

The people that spend tons of time trashing him online in elaborate ways are weird, but I can see how he's an easy target. He has thin skin and is easily gotten to, he brags and cares a ton about his appearance, clothes, shoes, money, mma career, etc. He's also not particularly talented at comedy, but maybe not much worse than your local small club journeyman comic. The difference being that he gets spots at top clubs along top comics because of his fame, which came by through unrelated activities and connections.

Even famous comedians like Rogan, Rock, Burr, and Chappelle make random and unannounced appearances at comedy clubs to try out new material.

You're a Schaub fan? Good for you. Doesn't mean he's a good comedian for anyone that isn't already a fan.

So former UFC top ten hw Brendan Schaub (Knocked out Cro Cop) has been making bits specific for each city he travels to. I haven't found a lot of his comedy funny but this was actually pretty damn good. He's playing into the fact that he gets a lot of hate and it seems he's evolving. Thoughts?

I watched a tiny bit of his stand up once and that was plenty forever. Not my cup of tea. On the level of someone enjoying the schmo or watching whats his face play video games, it's crazy to me but whatever works I guess. Plenty of people in the world like things I find just plain stupid.

I like Schaub on podcasts for some reason but 8ve never seen his standup and I would never expect it to be anything but cringe. I've watched hundreds of Rogan podcasts and never seen his standup besides a few clips and I'm almost positive he's not that funny.

Edit - I just checked, and Hannah Gadsby has been doing comedy since 2006. Like Schaub, she does sets exclusively to her own group, lesbians, and would bomb... or 'eat dick'... in front of a group that aren't lesbians (or LGBTQ).
