palm springs is fine, a large metropolitan desert area full of a few decent size cities w/ Indio, Palm Desert, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs. etc...

That's only like 20 minutes away landwise, but you can't really drive through the JTNP, so you have to go around this crazy mountain grade so it takes about an hour

Yucca valley is 25 minutes away and is substantially better, it actually has a Walmart, Home Depot, restaurants like Applebees, etc...
