jeezy was ok there for awhile, although he stole his whole gimmick from a FAB line in Comedy Central off the Clipse album

i.e. 'I got them teflons to shove in the 4//
that have undercovers and po', recovering slow//
the government know, the kid been loving the dough//
Since I was moving white off the curb, like I was shoveling snow!'
Lol what? You can't be serious

this song is so filthy, even years later
'i'm in the club sipping on the new 'ze Cognac, with the #9 Jordans w/ the Deuce Trey arm back'
'I hate to think that the dope game is my callin'/Cause it got us singing lullabies to our fallen/Good night friend, until we meet again/But for now in your name, we re-up and eat again"
'i keep them streets so numb, they call me novocaine' good lawd

Lol what? You can't be serious
he clearly mimic's almost the whole Clipse image from jump, althoug he isn't a lyricist like Pusha T or Fab.

i said 'mainstream', i don't recall any mainstream rappers prior to Fab/Clipse that were heavily pushing the snow/caine tip, and then Jeezy just took it an ran

Lol what's mainstream have to do with it? Pretty sure he didn't check off "mainstream" instead of "underground" on his rapper application

I think you're reaching there bud. Other than snow = cocaine, that's about all you got really. And it's not like their image, clipse that is, was snow = cocaine.

To me, that's like saying Snoop dog mimics Bob Marleys image.

The snow thing is just a small part, that he's ran with. It wasn't even really a small part of Clipse or Fab, just something they said in a rap once.

@El Chimpo Do you still read Rage Comics?

do you know the clipse catalog?

cuz they're entire pedigree is built up the coke game, like jeezy......

i was referring to snowman from the FAB line, but all three have very similar pervasive tropes in their raps, and the other two came first by about 5 years at least

People have been rapping about selling cocaine, and selling drugs in general, since the dawn of time

I know that since about 1990 rap has been about Weed, Coke, Crack, money, and bitches and that's about it.

i understand all that, i think you guys think i'm retarded some times. I said 'mainstream' for a reason, the same reason Will SMith won the first rap Grammy, b/c you weren't getting much play if your whole game was drug based, at least overtly.

Reasonable doubt, for instance, had many more drug references and dealing terms than the latter Jay z albums, he went more mainstream by signing w/ Roc and changing his message.

Fabolous and the Clipse, and then jeezy, didn't. They pretty much went straight w/ drugs rap, following the bling rap from No Limit and Cash Money a few years prior. That's what i meant

edit: moreso Clipse and Jeezy, fabolous has pop catchy singles and all the drug songs are just album fillers, but it's mostly what he talks about too

Reasonable Doubt came out in 96, right?

I guess Clipse and Fab stole their whole gimmick from early Jay Z, then?

Also, I don't think you are retarded...I just think you're reaching way to far to say Jeezy took his image from Clipse and Fab

i guess, except Reasonable Doubt wasn't a huge album at release nor marketing. Most casual fans only knew him at that pt from the Ill Na Na song w/ Foxy Brown IIRC.

Fabs first album and Clipse's Lord Willing were heavily marketed, first releases of major label offshoots, Clipse under the Neptunes, and FAB under DJ Clue's Desert Storm

a bit different IMO

You think any one of Clipse or Fab didn't hear reasonable doubt before Clipse put out Lord Willin? There was like 5 or 6 years between their releases.
