speaking of stocks and investments

so on friday, i had a reunion with childhood grade 8 class

the smartest girl (maybe smartest person) overall in the class is working for a company on the cutting edge curing cancer

i jokingly said i wanted insider tip, she laughed it off, but she told me she was very confident in her "science" and she's probably the most modest person in the class

anyway i wanted to buy the stock in her company, but was busy all morning, finally in the afternoon i had a chance to check it out and coincidentally the stock jumped nearly 10% today

i'm betting long, and i'm gonna keep in touch with this girl

That's going to be my issue when I have kids. I swear all the goddamn time. I'm amazed I don't do it more at work in front of customers

Don't worry, little kids swear now. If they don't learn from you, they are going to learn from other kids. Still a good idea to keep it clean and respectful at home.

Let us know how it works out. I hope they have deep pockets and a lot of luck. Hope she wasn't confident based on preclinical data. One of my fellow sibling startups was backed by the top scientists in AD and had spectacular in vitro, in cell, and murine data. They popped it into rats and it killed the liver and kidney. $40m spent (plus who knows how much NIH $$) and the thing was shutdown just a few weeks later.

You check out Forum pharmaceuticals. $700m+ went into it and they got some meh clinical data back. Place is essentially shutdown now.

Biotech is not for the faint of heart.

Yeah it's speculative but she was almost embarrassed that I was so keen on throwing some money down

But she is brilliant so we will see how it goes

I'm not putting anything I can't afford to lose

They are publicly traded? I assume you're not doing a PE round.

They are public

I hear what you're saying

She's admittedly not a business person but a self admitted science geek and she believes in her work (didn't want me to lose money on her account)

I'm essentially betting on the person

She was a December baby and skipped a grade so almost two years younger than some of us in class

Has engineering degree from queens, PhD from John hopkins

Did you read their 10k or S-1?

It's all nice and good until those robots are shooting at you while doing a backflip over your bullet-riddled corpse.

you know it's coming. Our only hope is that the guberments pick Windoze as the operating system for these killer robots and they BSOD.
