Been negotiating salary, benefits and work schedule with a new company recruiting me. Shit is like pulling teeth. Advice for anyone, never believe anything a company tells you in the negotiating process and never let them push you off your original position. Got different people from the company calling me daily to get me to move on shit, I told them I wouldn't move on.

I don't know your field of work but it's always best to passively negotiate when you bring in a big milestone and everything is going well at the company. They'll pay you a premium without ever realizing how much they are overpaying.

But in your mind you don't really care about the handjibbers so with a reasonable amount of resistance you allow them to take hand jibbers off the table and maybe one mouth jibber. This leaves you with 5 mouth jibbers when you really only needed 2 to keep from murdering people. It seems like a good compromise but you just Art of the Dealed their ass. If that doesn't work you just tell them something about buying high and selling low. ®©

I'm in corporate consulting - workplace strategy and corporate real estate acquisitions/dispositions. Specializing in Global Occupiers.

There are a lot of old school baby boomer broker types that think everything is negotiable. You just have to stand your ground and not let them push you around. They'll respect you for it more in the end.

Whenever I go into any type of negotiation, whether it's more personal stuff or in the course of my business, I always map out what is important for me (or for the client) and what is my walk away point. It's easy to cut through the bullshit of most negotiations if you're clear on those two previous points.

I have some leverage over these guys because I met their client they want me to work with during the interview process and she loved me. I'm making sure to squeeze everything out of them I can.

This is a man who is clear on his priorities and his walk away point. A-level negotiator imo.
