People I really want to know who wins? If you put 2 people with 3 years experience and same athleticism and body type.

Because I have a cousin which is a Sanshou fighter and lost pretty bad against a Muay Thai fighter around 2 years ago, I talked to him and he said something like "if I were allowed takedowns everything will be different", and he showed me this:

so this made me think ... is the "most lethal stand up martial art" (muay thai) vulnerable to sanda just because of the takedown game?

Maybe your cousin just wasn't as good as his opponent and we won't learn anything about Sanda or MT from his experience.

As far as the rest of it goes. Who sparred the most during those 3 years?

I think they were equal, but my cousin was the more amateur one because here Sanshou is at the level of tkd and karate tournaments, and muay thai is more professional.

Ah, I see Charlitos1988 has switched from trolling the grappling forum to the stand-up forum.

Muay Thai is badass and is very prevalent in MMA. Sanda/sanshou however seems like a great base for MMA but isn't seen whatsoever. That IMO is weird since its essentially kickboxing with basic judo trips and throws. It seems like a lot of fun and I want to see more.

However to answer the op. If the fight was standing only a mt fighter would win but if it was MMA the sanshou guy would easily win.

if takedowns are scored/allowed then sanshou

pure standup i would say muay thai

i train muay thai but i train for MMA, so if there was a san shou school nearby i would happily switch

however, the artist matters more than the art, so im not speaking in absolutes

yeah you read my mind, I was thinking on a "transition to MMA" idea.

I think

and I'm going out on a limb here, so bear with me

I think....

If a Muay Thai fighter and a Sanda fighter fought under Muay Thai rules...

The Muay Thai fighter would most likely win...

BUT!!!!

CRAZY I know, but think about it for a second~!

Also, shit thread.

What would happen if they had a pistol duel?

As soon as I read the thread title, I knew it was a Charlitos thread.

What would happen if they played hungry hungry hippos

I am curious about the Sanda stance though. It seem they stand more sideways than square. Comes with its own pros and cons standing like that. And lol at the crowd screaming at the top of their lungs for the Sanda guy.

I'll keep it real. At my first gym we used to openly and loudly mock sanshou.

I still mock it to this day. Who f*****g trains sanshou???
