I mean he dropped Wandy, a shame about the injury, can't say Saku would have won, but he was definitely in the more advantageous position, score wise.

He dropped Wand in the first fight before he did it in the 2nd fight+ sinking a deep guillotine on him. Saku was getting very close to a finish before getting melted in both of the first two fights. Problem is that Wand just grabbed him and smashed him first before he picked him up, dumped him right on his head, and broke his collarbone in the second match. The mismatch between Saku and Wand was in physicality and aggression. Otherwise, they were very evenly matched in skill and experience. The 3-0 result does not reflect how close this rivalry was to going the other way at all.

Everytime he fought Wanderlei, it ended very badly for Saku. This was the one his shoulder got dislocated?

From what I remember,Wandy was extra juiced in this fight,that gif they always show of him roided out of his mind comes from this fight,but he didnt always looked yolked the fuck out like that.

Anyway it looked like a man trying to fight a lion. Somehow Saku was still doing ok but you know he wasnt gonna be able to keep that up. He almost had Wandy in a guillotine but Wandy roidbeasted him up and onto his head.

Saku just was too small to fight the best LHW in the world at that time. I dont think it was that close. Only the second fight was competitive from what I recall. Yes Wanderlei ran into one of saku's punches in the first fight but nothing became of it. Wandy popped up immediatley and then just kept right on beating the fucking shit out of him

Wanderlei's defensive grappling is one of the most underrated aspects of a fighter's games in MMA.

Never subbed in 51 professional fights, and did that without elite TDD against some high-level grapplers.

The second fight was their best fight- and the inaugural title fight for PRIDE. Wanderlei had the physicality and was a stylistically bad matchup (never subbed), but Saku had the wrestling, heart, and craftiness.

Saku was very competitive. That standing guillotine was probably his best moment, but, of course, Wanderlei's escape is what injured him.

You are absolutely 100% correct, Wand has fantastic defensive grappling, very underrated, but in that moment I really wanted Sakuraba to win
