Sad truth of Melvin Guillard

I try not to hate on him but I've never been a fan. That's saying a lot since I give my support to all fighters from Louisiana and the deep South. I just always got bad vibes and didn't care for the things i saw and heard around NOLA. His feud with Rich Clementi went in a direction it didn't need to go mostly because of him. Rich took care of business in the cage. Still after all that I really did hope he would get on track and be relevant but bottom line he really wasn't that good.

What was odd was that he was a state champion wrestler who began to panic the instant he was taken down & apparently no amount of coaching could change that

He just didn’t have the mindset of an elite fighter

He's fighting soon against Josiah Harrell who got signed to the UFC recently but failed his medical which is a terrible idea.
Melvin is going to be so damaged by the time he finally stops.

Just checked, and he has ANOTHER fight booked after that one in Louisiana.

Kentucky and Louisiana are a beacon in the darkness for smart decision making.

Anyone remember the UFC inexplicably padding his record? Literally highlighted 20 more wins than he actually had.

He mostly beat cans
He has two split decisions against Stephens & Tibau and a finish vs Siver
He lost, usually badly, to every good fighter he faced.

Had no idea he fought in Bare Knuckle.

He's got the weirdest loooking losing streak going from Gaethje in WSOF to Salikhov in China to Izzy in Australia to Gomi in Rizin.

Haven't watched the video, but fun fact.

Melvin was trained (and basically mentored)
by the great Ron Tripp.

For you newer fans.

Ron Tripp is the guy that beat Rickson in competition and singlehandedly ruined Ricksons bullshit "400-0"
Granted a couple years ago Rickson said it's actually 450-0...

That’s great. If he is boxing. But it was very apparent early on that his ground game wasn’t improving.

Which is weird, as he was training with some very high level guys for quite a while.

I think Melvin was one of those guys that just kinda ran too much on emotion and got majorly discouraged when things werent going his way in a fight.

Imagine if he went the GSP route and got a sports psychologist or was able to overcome it.

He never had a well rounded game. Super exciting and explosive on the feet, but a fish out of water when it came to wrestling/grappling. Kinda Abdul Razak before Abdul Razak.

His fight w Cerrone was crazy. He was also a front runner.

Lol I had no idea Izzy fought Melvin. If I was Izzy I would be embarrassed to have that crackhead on my resume.

Considering he came from the hood in New Orleans in a drug/alcohol addicted family health doing better than most from that background.

He definitely tried to land himself in prison for good but failed and must have learned at least a little from that.

His own dad had him fighting in smoker matches when he was 16 so I have a smidge of sympathy for the guy.

Hopefully he has another way to make a living as the door is nearly shut on his fighting career.
It’s looking rough. Some FW fighters from the gym near me train with him sometimes and they all talk about how oddly easy it is to submit him on the ground. It really sucks though. They tried to get one my friends who is 2-1 to fight him recently too lol

So he is naturaly explosive (fast + strong) but naturaly also a wild guy who won't be focused and disciplined. He achieved what he did. If he was more talented or considered he would achieved more. It's not all in the power and speed.

He always came off as an epic prick and morbidly insecure. I was happy whenever he lost, which was all the time at one point.
