Ryan Hall doesn't believe in guard or shrimping...

you r only as good as the guys u have beaten so i think its kinda stupid to discredit the people youve beaten

I'm sorry, but in which universe does that make any sense?

Maybe from under side control, Ryan's been learning to Pop'n'Roll.

While I commend your efforts for posting this, this for the most part is EXACTLY what Rickson said he doesnt like when he see's people doing the hip escape/shrimp. At 0:01 you see how your legs are close together? While Rickson was walking around telling everyone to "Feel it", one of the things he stressed was not having your 2 legs be so close together. The arm positioning in this video is right for the most part, but the leg positioning, foot work, and angling is different than what Rickson was showing.

Sorry for the necromancy of an old thread, a friend just sent me the link.

Do you happen to have a video link detailing the correct way that Rickson and Hall show? If not, does anyone?
Before your post the previous posts had me thinking that this was the way. If its not I would really like to find out the correct way to avoid spending time on something else.

No offense at all to the video poster. :)

Thanks!

Bump for this, I'd also like to see Rickson describing the shrimp.

Supposedly Ryan's demonstration in his deep half DVD set is the same. It's just an emphasis on keeping your posting foot in contact with the mat. "The ground is where I draw my power from." He also stresses being able to shrimp to both sides on the same foot, and briefly shows how standing up in base, getting to your knees and shrimping all utilize the same mechanical structure for stability.

I remember training at UniBJJ, we shrimped like 3 different ways, one of them I wasn't familiar with. I would have to experiment to see if it'll bring back a memory, but since Saulo trains with Rickson every now and then I'm sure it probably has some influence of what you guys are speaking of.
