International Russia/Ukraine Megathread V8

The counteroffensive is bearing out the dictum that, in a war of attrition, it doesn't matter who controls what village in the short term - what matters is what happens to the two armies fighting, because if one army makes slow advances at a high cost, those advances can be quickly reversed later if the other army has stayed in better condition. I'm travelling for work and having trouble following things as closely as I'd like, but these are very interesting days.

Edit: I also like how Ukraine managed to achieve a degree of surprise in the North by focusing everyone's attention in the South. I was wondering why they were officially announcing where the counteroffensive would start and now we have the explanation. It's important to realize that the Russian force in Ukraine is small given the size of the territory: they can mass their firepower and achieve superiority in one or two areas, but they will always be vulnerable in others because they are spread thin. No way for them to protect all their glocs and that could be a serious flaw going forward.

Double edit: reports that both Kupiansk and Izyum have either fallen or are partially occupied by the Ukrainians, yikes.

Anyone know who these cans are? Are they important?

It’s a shame that important and legitimate voices of protest have been hijacked by the far left in the UK to further completely unrelated objectives.

I was on the anti-Iraq war March in 2003, but I would probably not join a Stop the War March now due to these associations.

And its official, the Russians have 10,000 or so troops cut off

theyre so fucked

I was a bit late this month to ask my monthly "So, have we won yet?" and I come in to see this - awesome! So it's happening now, right? The Russians are going to lose the war? They've been beaten? I'll be able to go onto the CBC, BBC, CNN, etc, soon, and see the declarations of victory?

On the other fronts - I've been hearing, for months now, that the Russian economy is on the verge of collapse and the war is almost over because of how much the sanctions are devestating them. The sanctions are working and crushing them. I'm guessing I'll see that in the forthcoming victory reports too?

Did someone promise you this was going to end this month?
This has the potential to drag on for quite a bit.
I'd say give it a year or so.

Eh, I figure if I ask every month, one of these months it has to be true - right?

Certainly starting to look that way yes, but I doubt it happens in the next few months
anyway:
Hearthwarming stuff

@PrinceOfPain is the best articulator of complete and utter nonsense I've ever seen. It's amazing how he can be so wrong yet articulate it so well.

To be fair I thought this was a very astute take:

Not the only genuine success part obviously.

But I had to guess the goal of the northern offensive it's a drive towards Kup'yans'k which will screw with Izium supply lines. Which is pretty much what he is saying right here.

So there's at least one rational thought.

But then he goes and ruins it by linking an article claiming Russia has destroyed 60% of HIMARS systems.
This is the trolling technique I have termed faux-reasonable. Sprinkle the odd reasonable clause in with the bullshit so they can point to it and say, "See? I'm not a troll, just bringing the facts. You're the one with an issue, buddy. Sorry my facts make you upset," and can never admit to being wrong or disingenuous.

But this is so fucking lol-worthy,
But they've made no sustainable reversals of Russian gains. So, what exactly are you celebrating, other than dead civilians?

The reason the very idea of the Kherson counteroffensive was so laughable was because, unless you're cognitively impaired, it was obvious that an infantry and armour push across open ground against artillery and air support, with none of their own, was a suicide charge. It's not really laughable now that the Ukrainians, many of them reservists or territorial defence forces (so, the civilians that were handed rifles for the first time a few months ago), have suffered a tremendous loss of life.
I assume that your strategic awareness was honed playing Starcraft?

It's interesting how the counteroffensive was spun into a "distraction" for the real counteroffensive near Kharkov to which they've committed fewer troops and which even American military planners have advised against.
The war has been a disaster for Europe as well as for the overall myth of Western military prowess. Partially because the West's entire strategy is a PR strategy. And a PR strategy can obviously only expect limited success when you're losing the military and economic confrontation.
I'll take posts that didn't age well for $200, Alex.

"One reason for the attack’s success, according to Michael Kofman, lead Russia analyst at the CNA think-tank, is that Russian forces were under-resourced after Moscow “deployed most of its better troops to Kherson” in anticipation of the long-expected Ukrainian attack there. When Ukraine struck, Russian forces were also “caught off guard, which resulted in an uncoordinated withdrawal”, said Konrad Muzyka of Rochan Consulting, a military advisory service based in Poland.""

Over 1000 square kilometres have been liberated by the Ukrainian army in only 8 days of the September offensive. This was stated by the President of Ukraine on September 8. Russian army takes huge losses in territory and manpower on the front lines, and the soldiers themselves desperately confirm to their Russian wifes the successes of the Ukrainian warriors on all directions of the counter-offensive operation. ___________________________________ Subscribe to UATV English: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UATVEN Twitter: https://twitter.com/UATV_en Telegram: https://t.me/uatv_eng Website : https://uatv.ua/en/ #UATV #UATV_English #UkraineNews #UATV_News #News #Ukraine #UkrainianNews #EventsInUkraine #LatestNews #TopNewsUkraine
