I used to interact with a lot of WWII, Korean, and Vietnam vets when I was active duty. A pilot from the Korean war told me how he met a Russian pilot at a ceremony in S. Korea well after the war.

The Russian said "Do you think we crossed paths in the skies above Korea?" (The Russians used to have their pilots fly the MIG as the N. Koreans didn't have enough trained pilots to be effective.) The American replied "No, because if we had, you wouldn't be here."

The American was a Korean War Ace.

Im sure he said that, in the moment, with a smirk and a cigarette dangling in the corner of his mouth. Not something he thought he should’ve said, while tucking himself into bed.

Meaning, the Russians were damn good pilots in a damn good plane and, head to head, they kicked ass too.
Now though….expensive fireworks display.

I am on the Ukrainian side but it rubs me the wrong way when I read all the hateful comments from liberals on Reddit about wanting ordinary Russians to be deported and punished with sanctions. I mean where were they when ISIS was a thing? Did they wanted all Muslims to be deported and punished for the terrorism in the Middle East and in Europe against non sunni muslims? Not all Russians are bad.

Most of those citizens unfortunately support violent actions and in fact the majority criticize and ask the government for more radical 'measures' against whatever they have west of their border. Without mass support all over the country, no president in Moscow would dare to start a WW2 look-alike war.
