In fact, I don't believe either one of you in terms of "caring" about Ukraine. Your words don't match your actions.

What "actions" are you referring to? This is a message board, words are all there are. My position is that Ukraine is justified in defending itself against Russia, and everyone who wants to give Ukraine weapons to that end are also justified in doing so.

You know who didn't want peace in the Ukraine? Vladimir Putin! He invaded the country to grab land and is now planning to absorb Kherson and as much of Southern Ukraine as he can into Russia through a phony referendum. Russia has proven to be a serial aggressor over the past 10 years of Putin's presidency and it is in the interest of the US and all of Europe to check him as hard and efficiently as possible. Furthermore, it is morally right to support the Ukrainians in their fight for self-determination.

As an American, you should enjoy being on the right side for once in your life.

You don't understand why this war started and why it is continuing. There is a ton of hypocrisy in terms of Russia/Ukraine war.

They said "end the damn wars". They didn't say "well unless it's Putin".

If America wanted to end this war, they would be helping negotiate instead of giving billions upon billions of our money to eastern Europe.

We all understand the arguments that said Hitler could be appeased by just giving him what he wanted thru negotiation, so not sure why you repeat them here.

The only thing the US could have negotiated with Putin was 'what if any bit of Ukraine he might leave in tact and which of his Oligarch puppets would get to rule the rump'?

Putin was never going to take any less than that at the beginnings when he felt Ukraine would fold. And now he is losing and being driven out he might gladly take a deal to create his land bridge, land locking the rest of Ukraine. Something no one should force Ukraine to give him now.

I think the verdict still out. No doubt more weight to hump around. While on paper, a specialized 5.56mm (77 grain) will outperform it at longer ranges, the bullet is still behind in terms of energy. From shorter barrels designed for CQB, the 6.8mm SPC will absolutely stomp on the 5.56mm. Both have their pros and cons. Like the 7.62mm. Seems to be a favorite though:

I mean it's approved, that's the verdict. Something like 120,000 will be phased in to frontline combat units over the next two years.

Well I'm pretty sure a big part of the change isn't necessarily for performance, but to standardize small arms across the board to bring logistics costs down and simplify logistics in general. There's nothing wrong with the 5.56 performance, and nothing incredibly gained or lost by the 6.8... but there's definitely a cost assosicated with having to maintain and transport both 5.56 and 7.62. I'd assume the textron ammo is just not cheap enough.

They're also going to just re-barrel the M240s instead of replacing them since it's so accurate it's not worth replacing. There's also going to be new 1-8x scopes issued with the new rifles so the extra ranged can be utilized.
