Russia/Ukraine Megathread V6

By getting Donbas and Crimea do you mean international recognition or just control of that area? It just seems unlikely to me that will happen or that sanctions will be lifted. Maybe the best win would be to gain enough territory to connect them but it seems unsustainable if they have to deal with even tougher sanctions.

I think donbas will be " independent " Crimea I think they'll get ( Russia )

But in terms of the perception the rest of the world has ? It'll be illegitimate

Lol, the MAD retaliatory strike does not happen after the first strike detonates. It happens a few minutes after launch, when it is clear we are under nuclear attack. The first and second strike will pass each other in the air. Everyone will be obliterated. You cannot win a full-scale nuclear war. There are automatic failsafe protocols to insure this will happen.

My understanding is that our nukes will actually be in the air literally seconds after anything is launched at us. The capabilities at this point to know what's happening are that advanced. Granted...I'm just a random guy sitting here that picked that up somewhere along the way so I definitely can't say I know that's the case for sure.

They'll keep Crimea though imo, and Putin will sell that he was "securing Crimea officially and permanently" or something like that. They already had it, but that's how he'll sell it.
But also, the Russian plan to withdraw from the Kyiv theater (by choice or necessity) removes the threat to the western supply lines which will be wide open and turned on full.

So the mighty have fallen , the Russia army I long time considered the best behind the USA is actually a paper tiger. God.

Yeah, I could be operating on an understanding of it from 30+ years ago, but I think the actual launch would not be automatic that quickly. The President would be notified and rushed to get him in the air if possible. They would call Russia on the hot line to rule out any possible misinterpretation, etc. I'm sure there's at least some minutes of check-downs beforehand.

So what’s everyone’s thoughts on how the Donbass region fights will go? Anyone have unbiased map showing what’s controlled and by whom? I think it’ll be a battle to who can mobilize and stock troops the fastest to the region from where they are currently located. I see Donetsk being the next Mauripol and it basically getting scorched earth before/if ever Russia takes it. We will see how many people are still pro Russia there after the dust settles.

I wouldn’t put it back Ukraine to try some type of terrorist attack on Moscow in the next 1-2 years either. Moscow isn’t that far from the border.

Well, looks that Putin anyway underestimated his " enemies ".
Russia's character is to slap in the face ppl who had helped them, lie and treat all signed by them papers as toilet paper nothing more.

Since 1949 th Russia forget reality.
Lies about west as enemies despite they helped USSR 1942-1945 damn a lot, they now are listing them as enemies.

Better btw allies didn't had helped USSR 1942-1945 but had concentrated all their resources to help U.K etc.

Then USSR had suffered more from Hitler than they had.

Anyway USSR was like dog: when Stalin get nuke in 1949 th, he started to yell that allies are his enemies, launched purge 1949, especially in terriotries who had been occupied by Nazis 1941-1945 in order to do cleaning: sent ppl to GULAG camps, a lot of more lucky ppl just lost their jobs.
Launched next spy mania till paranoia level.
1949-1953 soviets had obsession with possible spies, internal enemies and saboteurs.

When Stalin had bad days, he even feared that his doctors might poison him.

Kremlin official says West has declared 'total war' on Russia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday took aim at the sanctions the United States and other countries have imposed on Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine, saying he believes that the West has declared "total war" on Russia.

Lavrov made his comments during a meeting in which he described actions that Western nations have taken in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine as "a real hybrid war," adding that "total war was declared on us," The Associated Press reported.

Lavrov also said that he believes the West has a goal "to destroy, break, annihilate, strangle the Russian economy, and Russia on the whole," according to the AP.
He then warned that Russia does have allies.

"We have many friends, allies, partners in the world, a huge number of associations in which Russia is working with countries of all continents, and we will continue to do so," Lavrov reportedly said.

Russia invaded Ukraine a month ago and has since stepped up its targeting of civilian areas. The Biden administration this week formally accused Moscow of war crimes in Ukraine.

President Biden is in Europe this week meeting with European and NATO members. New sanctions were announced Thursday on allies of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Biden is scheduled to end his trip to Europe in Poland, where he will deliver a major address on Saturday. Poland shares a border with Ukraine.

The international sanctions have clearly hurt the Russian economy, though Lavrov emphasized that many states will decline to join that effort.

standard dictatorial practice really. drop bombs on civilians while pretending you're the victim. taking away your McDonald's is total war but bombing civilians in Ukraine is an "exercise". these assholes should work for Fox News.

Possible but I still don’t buy it. Russia has a far larger military, so why do they even need to engage trickery. If their goal was just liberating Dombass like Putin said, why not concentrate all their forces there (like 2014 with Crimea)

Would have a much greater chance of success since it’s a much simpler objective than invading all of Ukraine on so many different fronts. Especially since many people in Donbass are supposedly pro-Russian anyway.

No it was his master plan to drop hundreds of his best troops out of planes deep behind enemy lines to get slaughtered!

"The main objectives of the first stage of the operation have generally been accomplished," Sergei Rudskoi, head of the Russian General Staff's Main Operational Directorate, said in a speech.

"The combat potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been considerably reduced, which ... makes it possible to focus our core efforts on achieving the main goal, the liberation of Donbass."

From the horses mouth, but will wait to see if it’s followed up by action. Either way, that’s a massive, massive climb down from Russia.

No, no, no. You don't get it. You're SUPPOSED to have your crack troops try to encircle the capital city and fail miserably. Then, they're supposed to limp back closer to your own border and declare victory. 11th-D chess!

This threads emotions change by the hour.

The current consensus is Russia are cans and got embarrassed by a small neighbour they invaded? That pretty much all I'm reading.

My only question for everyone that believes that is how long before Putin is assassinated?

Let's be clear.

If you actually believe the Russians attempted a multi front invasion of Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of men and vehicles including deep penetrating airborne assaults and complex naval invasions just to secure the Donbass which was already under their control.

You're fucking retarded.

of course they would be. why else would they fall for russian propaganda?

Because you'll be immediately flooded with responses from the entire TDS brigade who really need you to believe that the bad orange man is responsible for Russia invading Ukraine. In fact he's probably there now.
Did you bump your head?

Hopefully noone claims that, I guess that the plan may be controlling whole Azov Sea territory and cutting Ukraine off from it, which seems almost done by now, sadly.

It's day 33 of their 3 day special operation and they've still not found the Nazis they're looking for, despite losing 10k troops to Ukrainian farmers.

Russia is simple as primitive teen - bully who had learned to lie, create excuse stories and " reasons " why he did this and this is all Russia's intelectual level.
Nothing more.
Like teen bully threating smaller kids, laughing on them and accusing them, masturbating if was successful.
If someone didn't had feared even baseball bat and knife, then potential victim is nazi etc.

Russia's mentality is like cocky, lazy teen with bad habits, baseball bat and knife in his hands + liar's mouth.
