What did Russia gain by "feinting"? Their territorial gains are really nowhere near previous western expectations. What did they accomplish during this "feint"?

I think the southern push to link Crimea and donbas and annihilate Mauripol would have been a faaaar harder task without having those forces worrying about Kiev rather than supporting other troops.

Yeah nobody saw that coming.
I like the "breaking" in your link.
Everybody knew beforehand that they would win.
Song was kind of meh. IMO.
Updated with one performance an Ukraine's are making memes about it with Putin crying lol

Ive left sources before. Don't act like me or many others haven't. They have been selfishly throwing troops to die with little Strategic reason. Use your mouse and look threw the thread, im sure youll find plenty of sources.

Did you not see the video i posted?

look at that large amount of equipment and armored vehicles lost. They lost about 50 or so vehicles in the opening of they're eastern Offensive

Also .. I've stated numerous times attempting to push from the east. Would result in Russia getting fucked up

Imagine having such an odious life that you voluntarily run apologetics for the Russian invasion of Ukraine lol
Dude there are people in here obviously projecting their anxieties about domestic politics into a war in Eastern Europe.

I don't agree with excuse stories that Kiev was fake target because there are multiple reasons why they were able to make Kiev as fake target .....without invasion in Kiev oblastj at all.

Russia and Belarus are doing joint exercises in Belarus.
Belarus already had stationed near Ukraine C-400 and C-300 batteries + Buk and armed forces.
Since Lukasbenko does have at least 105 airplanes, at least 224 MRLS launchers + not lesser than 600 tanks and...tbey does have Thocka and SCUD launchers....

Ukraine anyway should had to keep considerable forces for Kiev.
If add here russian troops near Belarus- Ukraine border....
With this is enough to tie a lot kf ukr forces in Kiev oblastj.
Without attack...

So I did a bit of digging and RUSI, whom you claim as your main source (the only source you've mentioned, at least), does not believe the offensive around Kyiv was a feint and agree with me that Russia took heavy losses:

"WHEN RUSSIAN FORCES began to roll towards the Ukrainian border on the evening of Defender of the Fatherland Day, 23 February, Moscow was anticipating the capture of Kyiv within three days. Many outside observers – including the authors of this report – feared the destruction of the conventional Ukrainian military, even if they expected the fighting to last longer than Moscow had hoped.1 Moscow’s plan was for repressive measures to have stabilised control of Ukraine by Victory Day on 9 May. Instead, the Russian military was repulsed, suffering heavy losses, and is now embarking upon a limited offensive to try to secure Donetsk and Luhansk."

The report here, for those interested, goes on to give a detailed analysis of the Russian attack on Kyiv and why it failed (hint: there were both political and military shortcomings).

...whereas by contrast your claims are flying in the face of what every serious analysts out there says - and you are providing no numbers, sources or other evidence to back it up. It's just hard to take you seriously.

Yet you and @GhostZ06 are wasting bytes trying to convince this professional troll that water is wet.

Move on. You’re just bashing your heads against a stone here, buds.

I posted the sources re airfield a few messages ago. Wiki cnn etc. They were there a month... then withdrew.. it's undeniable. Now can someone please show me these confirmed transport jets downed with 450+ paratroopers?

It was claimed it was proven by mod ... shouldn't be hard to find right?

Yup as I said I don't particularly agree with everything the rusi says. Hence I said I believe Kharkiv was actually invaded. Not passed by .
Unlike their theory. I'll have to have a read as that one is far more recent than the one I was quoting.

Lets recap the Battle of Kyiv:

  • Thousands of Russian soldiers dead or wounded. And hundreds of military vehicles and equipment lost.
  • Had negative impact on Russian troop morale by all accounts.
  • Had a positive impact on Ukrainian troop and civilian population morale. Everyone (including the West) thought Kyiv would fall within days and it didn't. That basically turned the common opinion from "defeat is inevitable" to "Ukraine can win this war" both internally within Ukraine and around the world (which fueled the push in the West to supply weapons).
  • Turned Zelensky into a national hero and a leader for Ukraine and the world to rally around. When people thought that he was basically a dead man walking, the West offered to evacuate him from Kyiv. He turned down the offer with the now famous quote: "I don't need a ride, I need ammunition". This became a symbol of Ukrainian resistance. It galvanized his people towards putting up stiff resistance.
And what did Russia gain with this distraction:
  • They took Mariupol (eventually after heavy losses) and Kharkiv. They failed to take Odessa and they have since lost Kharkiv. While Ukraine was busy defending its capital, the Russians failed to take full control of Donbas.
So they gave up a lot and gained very little. And you believe they did this intentionally. That means that they are even more incompetent than is believed. That would be one of the biggest military blunders in modern history. I think those that are pro-Russian think that "they never intended to take Kyiv" somehow helps Russia save face but it actually makes them look even dumber.

perhaps russia wasnt trying to take kyiv, and all of ukraine, and overthrow their government. perhaps this was all just russia's friendly way of saying hello to their neighbours?

Lukashenko and Belarus military....
There maybe....big role played propaganda model used by Lukashenko during long years.....___
1. Belarus is peaceful country
3. Belarus needs to boost military just cos ....possible attack from " enemies " might happen.
Common flowchart was : Baltic countries and Poland, supported by NATO does have plans....to invade Belarus even till occupation, tanks in Minsk etc dreams.
4. This propaganda wasn't like in Russia, about deNazification etc.
It was paranoia that someone will invade Belarus.

Now? When these brainwashed in such manner military officers doesn't see invasion in Belarus and are ordered to go somewhere not in Belarus, for sure they are confused.
No one is able in one day - week to erase impact from propaganda cultivated during long years....

Now Lukashenko told that with Putin's and United Russia party help Belarus will produce missiles for Polonez MRLS ( it is like some king improved Smerch ) and something like Iskander clones??? in order to better prepare to defeat potential invasion in Belarus.

I don't agree that only paratroopers might take very large city.
While if in city is disorder, demonstrations and pro Kremlin oriented ppl + sent in diversants and saboteurs + properly instructed local saboteurs and diverstants: why not?

Then it is easy to create panic in city in 1 hour even without paratroopers and ...invasion at all.
Looks that they were able to prevent this to happen.

It is easy to tell how 1 human being is " helpless " and can't create panic.

We had episodes with idiots calling that there and here are mines and will be ba baah bahh.
Not related with russia at all.
Effect was relatively huge. F.e railroad station doesn't work for 1 hour etc.

While if retard armed witg RPG-7?

F.e relatively easily to blow up railroad truck carrying gasoline, acetone, diesel fuel etc....or storage tank with 6000 tons diesel fuel.

This....only x from xxxxxxxxx options.
