Russia is probably retreating from the north. They have given up on Kiev and try to hold on what they've got so far and maybe take Mariupol and Odessa.

Almost surrounded their stated objectives completely by that map... but I wouldn't know if that map is accurate at all.

He usually makes solid factual arguments, but yeah it's still one man predicting the future so...

Non-russian foreigners who come here and speak Russian with us, becase they assume that's what we do here, should burn in hell.

I don't mind Russians who come here from actual Russia, i'll gladly respond in Russian and be nice, but I'm not bending the knee for someone who has lived here for decades and can't even say please and thank you, mostly not because they don't know how, but out of stubborness.

With local Russians I always speak latvian, and often they respond in Russian. We understand eachother, don't hurt eachothers pride, and all is well.

My dad and my wife showed respect to this country and learned the language. With examples like this in my life, it's hard for me to accept others not doing it.

You even learned ‘Murican to respond to us on Sherdog. You’re a true gentleman and scholar sir.

They have been fortifying their positions north-west of Kiev so they probably try to tie some Ukrainian forces still in the north even if they will concentrate most of their offensive in the south/east.

Syrians are maybe also realising that their families would have tough time collecting the promised compensations from Russians in case of death or injury.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed a “compromise” that could end the war with Russia, which has now been dragging on for almost a month.

Speaking to his nation’s public broadcaster Suspilne today, Mr Zelensky suggested Ukraine could live with not seeking NATO membership.

“NATO should either say now that they are accepting us, or openly say they are not accepting us because they are afraid of Russia. Which is true,” he argued.

And then we need to calm down and say OK, there are NATO member countries that can provide us security guarantees without a membership in NATO.

“That is where the compromise exists. That’s where the end of the war is.”

Mr Zelensky also drew a couple of red lines, however, saying Ukraine could not accept handing over any of its cities, and would not sign any peace agreement that includes the word “de-Nazification”.

“We cannot accept an ultimatum from Russia. How can we, after our people were killed?” Mr Zelensky said.

“It is impossible. Simply impossible ... let’s say they demand to get Kharkiv, or Mariupol, or Kyiv. People in these cities won’t let them do it. The only way they can seize the cities is to kill everyone, and take the empty city.

“There can't be any ‘de-Nazification’ in the agreement. When a country that is treading in the footsteps of the Nazis is accusing us of being Nazis, we can’t accept that.”

The Ukrainian government has said more than 8000 people were evacuated from conflict zones on Monday alone as the war enters its 27th day.

Of that number, 3,000 fled from the besieged city of Mariupol as Russian troops continue to close in.

Couple of things. I thought nobody could get out of Mariupol as the Russians were killing everyone who leaves......

The cities ( by my view ) were never the goal. Donbas and Crimea were. ( and by putins stated goals )

Neutral Ukraine. No NATO. Donbas and Crimea Russian ( well donbas independent states)

Failure on " denazification " and Russian goals have been completed pretty much.

Hopefully they get it done quickly before more people suffer.

Not the news story I dreamed of waking up to. Russia using biological or chemical weapon would be awful in itself and would risk forcing Biden into doing more and more... eventually risking actual war.

Unfortunately, it makes a twisted kind of sense that Putin would consider it: Russian casualty figures seem high and taking city centres is very, very difficult unless you have a large manpower advantage (US experts even say 10 to 1). Russia doesn't have that advantage and their edge in firepower and tech won't help much in urban combat.

Dangerous times.

This info, combined with Russian's losing territory makes me nauseous that there might be some truth to it.

I’ve always enjoyed Zeihan but felt his views are a bit too deterministic and tend to underestimate human will as a global force. I find taking him with a dose of George Friedman generally corrects for that error.

That said, Zeihan has been pretty spectacularly confirmed in this whole affair.

i think i'll reserve my judgement. its a crazy world we're living in these days. who knows what humanity is capable of when we've got men winning womens swimming competitions and people walking alone outside with a facemask on. hell, i just read some thread about how theyre trying to get us to give up eating meat for motherfucking lentils in spite of the inflation. i've pretty much lost faith in society.

If the White Privilege Soy Libs have their way we will no longer be able to travel because of WAR/Pandemic/Climate. (Only Rich Elite will be able to do that). And then we will have to eat chemically produced Vegan products instead of meat. And all internet and media will be controlled by the Soy Lib thought police.
