Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the peace deal that Johnson tanked would only have seen them lose the Donbass opposed to the land bridge and any of Kharkov. Thus the war will result in Ukraine losing territory they would not have lost if they'd taken the deal. Making the war a defeat. The war would only be worth it(from the Ukranian perspective) if it's outcome was better than the deal.

That peace deal had zero security guarantees.


Ukraine would rather have a bad deal with ironclad security guarantees than any deal that relies on blindly trusting Russian goodwill.

In 2023 the Ukr had get 18 b EUR as macro financial assistance and in 2022 the approx 20 b EUR in form of money transfers....

They ofc are excepting to get next portion in January 2024 th while nothing yet is signed.

Orban is thinking that Ukraine is Russia.
He might block Ukr from EU membership and might block some assistance packages....

While there are a lot of ways to bypass Orban with financial assistance decisions.
Big problem for Ukr is that decisions makers in Europe now most likely will start to work only in January 2024 th....

They were never going to lose "just the Donbass". Putin wants everything he can possibly get. That is how mobsters work. The war is worth it for Ukraine if they continue to exist which, so far, they are still doing.
