A short clip from Zelensky's February 24 press conference has circulated online, with many suggesting it shows the Ukrainian leader calling on the United States to send children to fight in Ukraine.

It was shared on Twitter by The Hodgetwins, also known as the Conservative Twins. The Hodgetwins are an American stand-up comedy and conservative political commentary duo consisting of identical twin brothers Keith and Kevin Hodge.

"Is this real? Zelensky saying Americans will send their sons and daughters to war for Ukraine and potentially die. Oh hell no," The Hodgetwins wrote in a caption.

The 19-second clip has gone viral on Twitter, garnering more than 3.5 million views at the time of writing since it was posted on Tuesday night.

The Facts

The short clip is missing a lot of context—Zelensky's remarks were in response to a wider question about opinion polls in the U.S. that indicate a growing number of Americans believe the Biden administration is providing too much support to Ukraine.

Ukraine's president was asked about what his message would be to Americans with those concerns.

Zelensky began by thanking Americans for showing support to Ukraine, and said he believed withdrawing or decreasing support could hypothetically have an impact on their children, should Russia win the war as a result.

"Are American children any different from ours? Don't Americans enjoy the same things as we do?" he asked rhetorically. "I don't think we're very different."

Zelensky suggested that if American support for Ukraine weakened and depleted, and Kyiv went on to lose the war against Russia, NATO members including the U.S. risk being dragged into a bigger conflict.

This, Zelensky predicted, is because "Russia is going to enter Baltic states, NATO member states, and then the U.S. will have to send their sons and daughters, exactly the same way as we are sending our sons and daughters, to war.

"And they will have to fight because it's NATO that we're talking about and they will be dying, God forbid, because it's a horrible thing."

for the actual question:

TLDR; as i stated, someone (purposely) cut out all context to make it appear that he's calling for the US to send their kids to fight his war.
When in reality he's calling upon the US to continue to support the Ukrainians to fight this war, because in his view if Russia doesn't lose this war, it will start another one (against the west).
And in that war the US would have to send it's children to fight.

As to why someone would edit it out, i think people can fill that in themselves

I didn't take it as the first part, which is why I believe his statement even cut, is correct.

How many posters in this thread who are pro-Ukraine would be willing to fight and die for Ukraine? Why aren't they there now? The majority are 'all bark and no bite.' So brave behind a computer screen with their self-righteous views. Zelensky is clearly getting desperate. Looks like $100 billion won't get him new troops which he desperately needs to fight Russia in 2023. People thinking that Ukraine actually matters -- that this conflict poses a world threat. <45>

I think to many in America its more a political talking point, and a gotcha topic for Democrats and Republicans at this point. Beyond the money the US is throwing at it, I think he also sees the gravity of the situation.

What happens there this year will be determining.

I believe if things don't go well for Ukraine it'll escalate beyond, and if that happens it's going to weigh heavy on many.

As if about mentioned volunteers from Lithuania in reality is very low number of ex ( bla bla bla insert here anything ) and active perssonel isn't allowed to be used in Ukr.
Real number always was <10 and all these ex not active. Yeah, ex military war tourists...
Ukr does have such stuff also from Peru etc.
Number of volunteers from EU countries is in reality very low.
While russian propaganda loves to pretend that " they are fighting with NATO " etc bullshit.
Our MoD had signed order to deliver Ukr cluster ammunition in 5 minutes I
IF Ukr were full NATO member country...this reality.
Not alone supplies calibrated not to worry fertilizers suppliers big friends...

Well, looks that Ukr will get some maybe 2,5 b from WB next week signed and 1,5-3 b from eurofunds....
+ maybe will negotiate with IMF about next small 15 b package etc...

No one needs lazy bodies dreaming to be called as pro, eating and accumuating fat and $ just cos they are on paper pros...LOL.
Even more if about conscripts...

Ofc it is easy to be a pro military and consume taxpayers money while in reality doing nothing valuable and yell in internet even if MoD will order to do search and rescue type tasks in hometown area.
Such parasitic attitude between pro military perssonel is thing well known for us.
All is cool until asked to do job. Sad reality.

I already knew the context was removed to do exactly this. You have to brain dead these days to not realize people are doing this all the time.
 
For me well known is parasite type pro military perssonel attitude who here is crying " but taxpayers money ".
We have some % of such guys.
Their ideal is to sit on taxpayers money while taking lesser risks than ppl working for ambulance or as firefighters.:(.
Then after long years had parasitic existence funded by taxpayers it is next holy grail to sit in internet and hate country etc.. :D:D:D.
Cos God forbid not just to feed with the same taxpayers money guy is so worried about<45>, God save us to ask such parasites to work.;).

In some depts approx 5% lads are exactly like one crybaby yelling in this thread....
Nothing wrong, MoD soon will clean such parasites out....;)

Consider the recent discovery of lot of natural gas, all the farm lands, and oil pockets found there. They could ultimately undermine russia the recent discoveries. They could be a key to Europe energy issue.

Russia did invade Ukraine. Are you high, and not on weed. You're act a tiny bit crazy..
