Saw this on the rumor mill on multiple sites yesterday, and it seems legit and not just wishful thinking.
https://movieweb.com/kathleen-kennedy-leaving-lucasfilm-star-wars/
Disney itself is most likely is releasing these 'rumors' as a mean to guage public reaction before anything is official. Disney is worth a large fraction of a trillion dollars with a sizable PR department, and their higher-ups do not make these decisions on a whim.
For those who are not in-the-know - Kathleen Kennedy is the President of LucasFilm since its been bought off by Disney from George Lucas. She's mostly been held responsible for the decisions that have made infuriated loyal fans of the Star Wars franchise over the last year.
*Hired Rian Johnson to write/direct The Last Jedi, and approved his script for the film.
*Approved the SJW-themes in recent Star Wars movies.
*Joined in the criticisms of fans who criticized the films.
*Her decision to approve the Solo movie's production, and failed to closely monitor it led to its numerous production catastrophies and expensive reshoots - nearly doubling its budget.
And financially -
*Lower sales numbers of Star Wars merchandise/toys than expected.
*Lower BluRay sales of the 3 Disney Star Wars releases than expected.
*Ep8 had the worst 2nd weekend dropoff of any Star Wars movie ever (68%), and brought in $700 million less than Ep7 - FAR less than expected.
*Solo is now expected to raise $80 million less than its estimated production budget - Not including its advertising budget.
But, if the rumor is confirmed to be true - there's also a rumor Kennedy will be able to hand-pick her successor, and that would be Kiri Hart.
Yup, she's the leader of Lucasfilm Story Group, and the fact she's to be Kennedy's hand-picked successor is all we need to know to hope she doesn't get the job.
And, probably, she won't get the job. She's a writer, and never produced a film in her career, and is by no means qualified to lead the production of a multi-billion dollar film franchise.
Rumors say the official announcement for the LucasArts change will be in September. We'll see if these rumors are legit within a few months.
