RUMOR: Bellator Champions Series 8 will be in Saitama Super Arena (Tokyo, Japan)

I am all for any steps backwards. I'm probably in the minority, but I still enjoy the way things were prior to Zuffa and the Unified Rules way more than what we have now. If a new org came along and simply rebooted what the UFC did in the early days...I would pay for it.
i don't know, people say it's backwards, but it's literally how MMA got put on the map AND you have other events still doing proper one night tournaments like K1, GLORY, all kinds of grappling tournaments. it can be done. and modern MMA fighters have expressed interest in doing it. i think it is the dark horse, the ace in the hole, the one thing that would bring back MMA to some glory. I think Rizin and other orgs that could do it are sleeping on it. Imagine a proper one night tournament in Japan, maximum bragging rights. That's a real fucking champion, whoever wins that. And it's always some sort of person you never imagine to win. wish they would do a one night tournament with representatives from Rizin, DEEP, Pancrase, BLACK, Road FC, etc, etc.

I'm not sure what the commission rules are on it in Japan. In most places you can't do more than 5 rounds in one night.

i think Oklahoma was the last place that had a one night tournament, think Brock Larson won.

it can be done. i'm sure Japan could do it. stand up fighters do it in K1 with way higher KO rates. you could have separate champions, champions in the division and then tournament champions. and everyone loves more belts.

You can do it if you have a two round fight and a three round final or two one round fights and a three round final.

Centurion FC have a tournament on every card and they've got a card in Malta this week with the 2 rounds/3 rounds format.

Roan Carneiro won the one night Battgrounds MMA 8 man tournament (beating Larson in the finals), all fights were scheduled for three 5 minute rounds, that was in Oklahoma.

Also, in Phoenix, Arizona, WSOF held a one night 8 man tournament with all fights scheduled for three 5 minute rounds. Brian Foster won it. It definitely can be done.

Kenny Monday's promotion, I believe. I'm an Okie, he's good for the sport in my state

From what I heard last week from someone in the know, they’ll be keeping the Bellator name alive next year
That's cool. I'm kinda in one of those "didn't know what I had until it was gone" situations. Bellator as it was had a ton of room for improvement, but it was a much better alternative than PFL. Maybe the Bellator we have isn't the one we had, but I still find it better than PFL lol

Lmao I remember that tournament. Why did you leave out what a complete clusterfuck that thing was? <lol>
