Royal Rumble 2016 PBP and discussion

Who honestly thought Triple H was going to be a participant???

You??? Doubt it.

Well like on the first page of this thread - before the ppv started- I said I wanted anyone but Roman or HHH to win since they would be the predictable choices

California > Virginia

We got you on all of that.
Not really though, northern VA counties have the highest median income in the entire country.

And CA has an absolute shit work economy and massive unemployment, not a problem here in northern VA as the federal government is the largest employer in the nation.

Yeah, Virginia is a Commonwealth.

Will agree with that.

Seriously, once they turn him heel, and eventually turn him face again, he will be huge.

But for now, he will continue to get the ol Rocky Maivia treatment.

Die Roman Die?

Seth as a face? Is that even possible?
Absolutely. His wrestling style is much better suited towards it, and his promos wouldn't have to carry him. He's going to be incredibly over when he turns face.

Just like Roman will be over when he turns heel.

You know, with this whole McMahon vs Austin rehash thing, i finally realized why it have been so weak all along. Triple H/Stephanie didn't have that "i want to punch him in the mouth" factor that Vince had, instead they have that annoyance factor instead. The one that make you want to change the channel. The fact that their storyline have been going on for so goddamn long didn't help, either. And on the other hand the babyface in Reigns was never over in an organic way. As some people remember he was over back when Batista was winning his RR, so it is not like the fan wasn't ever in support of him. The slump of their programming in the football seasons to me was a combination of this. Not just Roman Reigns or Triple H alone. It have been a whirlwind of mistakes from top to bottom. Can they somehow make it end at this year's WrestleMania and usher in a truly new era? I doubt it. Because if there's anything that have been consistent in WWE, it is their refusal to try to NOT beating a dead horse.

there is nothing organic with smarks. they arbitrarily attach onto and turn on someone.

If Trips woulda just shook Ambrose hand and jumped over the top rope I would have marked for that.

Oh I lived in CA plenty my good man. I never disputed living out there is preferable especially when it comes to the weather, traffic, lifestyle, and women. I was only bringing to light your preconceived notions of what Virginia is.

Traffic?

That's reason #1 on my list of reasons not to move out there.

(It's a short list btw)

LOL no I meant the traffic is far worse in the northern va area (I 95 d.c. Metro area) than the majority of CA. I was touting the benefits of lighter traffic in CA I have never lived in LA but I hear they get tons of traffic too, although I have lived in Sacramento and San Diego and neither compare.

I-81 is the devils dick, I hate that highway, state troopers everywhere

when seth works with ziggler or anyone but cena he works face and wins clean very often. His move set is great for a face minus the pedigree. all three members of the shield could make great heels or faces.

I don't see where they go from here. Only people who looked strong were Jericho, Lesnar and maybe AJ. Roman looked like a bitch leaving on his own two feet and got tossed and immediately forgotten about.

Okay, some things that I haven't seen people talking about in the aftermath of the PPV (I wasn't here during the show, so it may have been said earlier)

- Michael Cole was brilliant during the Ambrose/Owens match when he gets back on mic, let the "Professional, impartial play-by-play guy" slip, and just said "YEAH, DEAN!! GET HIM WITH THE STICK!!" before regaining his composure again.

- Holy fuck, Big E is a strong motherfucker! It's one thing picking heavy shit up, it's another thing to catch a 250lbs man from about 10ft in the air, with ease.

- I have no idea what the fuck happened with the Kalisto/Del Rio match, but Jesus Christ, they just botched the fuck out of each other.

- Becky Lynch's thighs are a work of art. Other than that, I think she might actually be the best babyface on the main roster right now. She's managed to get genuine crowd support and not just "Hot chick" pops or "Neckbeard Indie Cred" pops. For a woman to manage that, that's really impressive. And for Charlotte to get genuine heel heat, especially with Ric Flair in her corner, and it not be "Oh god, not this bitch" heat, that's also impressive too.

- I hate to say it, but I can't see "Babyface Boss" Sasha Banks working, that's a heel character through and through. I remember when she was a babyface in NXT, and she was the happy, smiley, golly gee, sweet, girl next door babyface. And her new hair colour is bright as a motherfucker.

- If you factor in the injured guys, and the NXT roster, the WWE roster is the strongest it's been for a long time, and if it continues to carry on this way, they might need to consider pushing it to 40 guys again. Considering only one member of the New Day, one member of The Social Outcasts and nobody felt like a "weak" entrant.

- This was already brought up, but Truth was great.

To be fair, Owens and Ambrose looked strong by virtue of being in a brutal last man standing match earlier on. The Wyatts look strong as fuck as a group. Say what you want about Bray doing the job whenever it counts, but when the family is together as a unit, they generally come out on top whether it be in a segment or a match

If I was going to bet on the RR, I would have bet on HHH. What I was hoping for (but didn't expect) was that Trips wouldn't win, but would screw Roman over, leading to Brock and Bray as the last two. Lights out, rest of the Wyatts return and do the Brock elimination the exact same way, but as the last two. Bray is your champion going into WM to defend against Brock. Trips and Roman still have a match at WM, just not for the title. Maybe a street fight or something along those lines. Wyatt as champion has a lot of potential, with built in title feuds against Brock, Reigns, Ambrose, Orton, Cena, and if he ever comes back DB. And the Wyatts clashing with the Authority could be entertaining down the line too. Oh well.

But overall, I enjoyed the card. Ambrose and Owens were great, and I'm glad to see that Owens will likely be moving on to Zayn instead of running Owens/Ambrose into the ground. I want Becky to have like a million of my babies, and it's great to see the Boss back. I agree that Sasha is not a babyface, but I think she could work as a tweener type. Kalisto is fun to watch in a "what will he do next and will he survive it?" way.

If you told me before the event that Roman, Sheamus, and ADR would not be winning, I'd have told you I'd be happy with whatever else happened.

On a side note, AJ Style's new shirt debuted last night and quickly sold out. That's great for Styles as merchandise sales usually helps a wrestler's chances of getting pushed.
