Roy Jones Jr. Advises Terence Crawford to Fight Ilia Topuria Next

Ilia draws nothing in the sport of boxing. He's not Conor, only UFC fans know who he is.

Crawford will make just as much money taking a legit fight, while adding to his legacy.

Roy Jones Jr. thinks boxing champ Terence Crawford should either fight Ilia Topuria or retire.

Crawford reached the peak of his stardom last month by beating the sport’s biggest star, Canelo Alvarez, via unanimous decision on Netflix. Jones believes Crawford should learn a lesson from his career and hang up his gloves now. Jones cited his trilogy loss against Antonio Tarver as a prime example of this logic. While Jones earned a controversial split decision against Tarver in their first meeting, he was brutally knocked out in the rematch and dropped a decision in the rubber match. Jones suggests that, unlike himself, Crawford should retire instead of looking for a rematch against Alvarez. If not, Jones believes fighting Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight champion Topuria is the next best thing for “Bud.”

Jones Jr.: Retirement the Best Thing for Crawford

“I think Crawford will retire. If he retires next, it’d be the best thing,” Jones Jr. told TitanPlay. “Had I retired after I beat Antonio Tarver the first time, we wouldn’t be having conversations about the greatest of all time. And we still shouldn’t, because facts are facts. But if Crawford does anything more, he should fight Ilia Topuria. He deserves the reward at this time. Look how long he waited before he got the attention he has now. He deserves one more of those. If anything, that’s what he should do.”

I believe fyi @mxzt is now @Takes Two To Tango correct me if I'm wrong

He should fight some midget that no one outside of MMA fans has ever heard of? Good call, Roid.
It would definitely take a ton of marking and publicity to sell it IMO but I don't really keep up with boxing. Maybe the fans are getting used to odd matchups cia the Paul fights and would be more interested as a result?

Aren't Canelo and Crawford basically welterweights too though?

*edit*
MMA WW, aka 170 lbs?

Topuria better start appealing to the Americans real quick. and i don't mean MMA fans, i mean Americans in general. Conor only got the Mayweather fight because Americans were eating up his schtick. nobody really gives a shit or even knows who Ilia is besides MMA fans in America.

It just takes the right fight and opponent. Crawford himself, despite his previous success only became a household name in his last couple fights, Spence Jr. and Canelo, and this was when he was already in his late 30s.

People forget how big Nate played a role in Conor's mega stardom. You need the right dance partner to attract casuals.

Stop with that boxing BS. That fight is not interesting and doesn't do anything for their careers.

Topuria called out Crawford, not the other way around. If the wee man still wants to copy Conor, the fight should happen under professional boxing rules and Crawford should give Topuria the same respect that Joshua gave Ngannou. IDGAF if Crawford has an MMA background or not.

Topuria will get pieced up easily by Crawford easily. I love watching people make blatantly stupid decisions and suffer the consequences of their own ego.

No boxer i'd rather watch in their prime than a prime RJJ. What a god damn treat that guy was in his prime.

Find me a boxer today that was a fraction as talented as RJJ that is as exciting in the ring and maybe i'd still watch.

Bud doesn't even know who he is as a lot of boxing fans don't either. I don't care to see anymore MMA guys fight established boxers in a boxing match. This wouldn't sell and if it were to occur Bud would make easy work of Ilia.

There’s a big difference in a boxer and a striker. Just look at karate stance McGregor vs boxing stance McGregor
<{hughesimpress}>

I wish these guys would just keep up their mma training and quit serving their chins up on a silver platter for a quick buck
